 Course Description  

Introduction to fundamentals of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in open and closed systems. Calculation of system pressure profiles for liquids and gases in water treatment facilities. Introduction to measurement and control of flowing fluids.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: ENVC 101 and WMATH 100. Scientific handheld calculator with graphing capability required.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Describe properties of both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids.
2. Apply appropriate measurement techniques for open and closed system flows.
3. Calculate pressure drop and fluid velocity in pipe, valves, and fittings.
4. Calculate quantity of fluid flow through orifice meters.
5. Calculate fluid flow through open channels.
