After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Instructional methods and issues as they relate to effectively working with ESL, bicultural/bilingual children.
  2. Primary and secondary language acquisition and the role of language in learning.
  3. Enrichment or strengths based curriculum versus the deficit models of schooling.
  4. Bilingual/ESL education components.
  5. Issues of culture, diversity and power in the classroom will be discussed in the context of the needs of the ESL, bilingual and bicultural student.
