 Course Description  

Continuation of FIRE 120 and 121. Introduction to firefighting tools and equipment and basic firefighting techniques in new firefighter skill sets. Cognitive and skills development in emergency ground operations using firefighting companies. Emphasizes multi-company operations.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: FIRE 121 with minimum C grade or department chair approval.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Given sections of fire hose, cleaning equipment, and hose storage facilities, demonstrate the procedure for testing, inspecting and cleaning fire hose to return to service.
  2. Given hose appliances carried on various fire engines, name each, identify where they are stored on the apparatus, and describe their use, describe their construction and identify each part.
  3. Given hose tools carried on various fire engines, name each, identify where they are stored on the apparatus, and describe their use.
  4. Given sections of fire hose, demonstrate making up rolls, donuts, loads, and finishes.
  5. Given an equipped fire engine and working in a company, demonstrate the proficiency in performing supply and attack evolutions.
  6. Given a charged fire hose and working in a company, demonstrate handling various hose lines and nozzles.
  7. Describe the effects of friction loss and elevation gain/loss on the production of fire streams
  8. Describe the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and handling of Fog Streams, Solid Streams, and Broken Streams.
  9. Given an equipped engine and working in a company, demonstrate attacking a passenger vehicle fire, a dumpster fire, a ground-level structure fire, and above-ground level structure fire, and a below-ground level structure fire.
