Introduction to the technologies and concepts associated with Web site design and development. Create and design Web sites using XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Student Web sites will be published and critiqued. Strongly recommended: Computer literacy and file management skills.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand and use Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) tags and attributes to develop Web pages.
  2. Understand and identify the components of Web pages.
  3. Understand the phases of Web site design and development, and use the XHTML syntax and markup language.
  4. Design and author XHTML documents using text editors.
  5. Incorporate text, images, graphics, text formats, and document formatting into XHTML documents.
  6. Use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the type specification and layout of Web pages.
  7. Understand and use Web page design principles to design and develop a Web site with a specific purpose where the needs of a diverse target audience are at the forefront.
  8. Test a Web site and understand the importance of maintaining a Web site.
  9. Compare pricing and service offered by different Web hosting services.
  10. Upload a Web site to a Web server.
  11. Use e-mail and a class Web page to analyze and critique student Web pages.
