 Course Description  

Operation, diagnosis and repair of automotive air conditioning and heating systems including climate control systems and related electrical circuits. Includes proper service and maintenance of heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, and use of specialty equipment.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment: AT 100 or 107; AT 121, 133, and 205 and WT 231.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand safety and the hazards associated with air conditioning systems.
  2. Describe the nomenclature and function of the manifold gauge set.
  3. Determine if the air conditioning malfunction is due to an electrical or mechanical failure.
  4. Identify the different types of automotive air conditioning systems.
  5. Identify the various makes and models of compressors used in automotive air conditioning service.
  6. Leak test air conditioning systems with different types of leak detectors.
  7. Identify the blower motors, linkage contacts of the air conditioning systems.
  8. Understand retrofit or change from R-12 or CFC-12 or HFC 134a.
  9. Determine the problems relating to electrical by following a wiring diagram.
  10. Identify the major components of the automotive engine cooling and comfort heating system.
