What is Learning Into Action?
Learning Into Action (LIA) is a program designed to help you, the student, apply knowledge and theory gained in the classroom setting to a possible career path. The goal of this experience is to allow you to explore that possibility, and determine if it is a path you wish to follow for your future. An applied learning project provides you with a valuable perspective of the workplace and how it relates to your own professional field and goals. Students seeking the AAUCT Degree must complete a minimum of one credit (30 field hours) under the supervision and guidance of a faculty sponsor. Additional LIA credits may be completed and will be considered as gray area electives. You must have 45 transferable credits in order to register for Learning Into Action.
To register for Whidbey Island Campus LIA, please check your quarterly schedule section for Whidbey Island Campus/Learning into Action. Then choose the course that most closely matches your career goals. Example: EDUC 299 for future teachers, BISC 299 for future biology or medical professions, etc. Use the line number provided to register.
You may use LIA for an Integrative Experience transfer degree requirement. Ask the coordinator for more details on how to earn this credit.

Project Opportunities
Students registered for LIA are responsible for locating an agency or organization, on-campus or off, that is able to provide an experience that meets learning objectives developed by the student. An independent project may be designed by the student with the Faculty Sponsor's approval.
Opportunities can be found:
A Learning Into Action Project may consist of:
The project must allow students to demonstrate, integrate or apply specific skills, knowledge and technologies outside (or in conjunction with) their classroom experience.
Learning Into Action students must first develop a learning contract in collaboration with the site supervisor for the project. If the project is done independently, a faculty sponsor or the Learning Into Action Coordinator may help develop learning objectives. A contract identifies learning objectives and skills to be demonstrated, how this will be accomplished, and how the project will be assessed.
Visit the Syllabus and Forms page to review requirements. These requirements may change from quarter to quarter, so please always check the syllabus for the quarter in which you are registered for an updated copy even if you start early.
