How to Start

Students must begin the LIA process the quarter before planned completion.

Read the Directions found at the Directions, Syllabus, and Forms page link found on the sidebar. After reading, please contact the LIA Coordinator or drop-in during office hours to have your questions answered if needed.

Students will be allowed to register after the deadline for LIA up to the first day of the quarter case by case basis after demonstrating that the directions have been read. The coordinator must be contacted for permission.

Completion of the Learning Contract is required in order to receive permission from the LIA Coordinator to register. (Refer to the Syllabus & Forms link for directions and the form.)

Learning Into Action used as an Integrative Experience

All SVC transfer degrees require three Integrative Experiences total. These can take the form of linked courses, Learning Communities, and various forms of Integrative Experiences. LIA can be used to fulfill one Integrative Experience. Follow the directions for Integrative Experiences at this link. Experience Guidelines and the LIA as IE Directions

LIA Project Opportunities

Students are responsible for locating an agency or organization, on-campus or off, that is able to provide an experience that meets learning objectives. The experience should apply skills, concepts, and ideas from SVC coursework and should also provide insights to a future major and/or career goal. Students should email or visit the LIA Coordinator if they need assistance finding a site to work on a project or activity.

1.     The Whidbey LIA Coordinator has a list of previous sponsors who are willing to sponsor students again.

2.     A part time job or full time job may also provide opportunities through a project,

3.     On-campus activities and events may also be used

4.     Faculty Sponsors can assist in finding a suitable site to fulfill LIA projects.

5.     Students who remain undecided on a career path or major may use career counseling for their LIA.

6.     The on-line job board may also have local opportunities (Cardinal Career Connect). Log on here to create an account and search for opportunities: Cardinal Career Connect
