Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Welcome to Adult Basic Education (ABE)! ABE is a program dedicated to equipping you with the skills and knowledge you need to get your GED and continue on with your life goals. The faculty and staff members here recognize the uniqueness of each learner. We work hard to individualize every student's learning experience so that we can best suit your academic needs. Most of our students start ABE after being away from school for an extended amount of time. You should not worry or feel intimidated if you have been out of school for a while. We are here to make you feel comfortable and to re-familiarize you with the academic environment.
ABE's class structure consists of classroom instruction, individualized computer lessons, and one-on-one tutoring. When you first start the class you will be given a series of tests to determine your learning level. Once determined, we will create a curriculum based on what you need to study. For example, if you are stronger in reading than in math, we will assign you more lessons in math. We will also administer practice GED tests so that you know when you are ready to take the official GED. This is a self-motivated class. If you are serious about reaching your goals, you will accomplish them!
It is easy to register for classes! All you have to do is come by Lewis Hall room 13 between 8:30-11:30am or 1:00-3:00pm Monday-Thursday and talk to Teaching Assistant Katherine Shannon. Katherine will answer any questions you may have about the class and will help you get registered. This means that you can start to work on getting your GED right away!
