Global Awareness at SVC

Skagit Valley College has always promoted a rich environment in which students, faculty and staff can immerse themselves in cultures other than their own.

With large number of faculty active in international studies and a dynamic population of students from around the world, global awareness has been a strong undercurrent in our learning environment with opportunities that strive to promote personal growth and self-reliance through awareness of different cultures, as well as new perspectives on their own.

As current technology facilitates global interaction in unprecedented ways, Skagit Valley College has recognized the need for a new paradigm to fully prepare our students, not only to succeed in careers that are more defined from the perspective of a global economy but also to effectively engage in the global issues.  We would like students to recognize that global issues should not be viewed in isolation, that they are all interwoven, and that they affect all people.

As one of the leading community colleges in the use of technology in the learning environment, we have the resources to implement global awareness initiatives that are designed to promote deeper understanding of the political, cultural, and economic challenges as well as opportunities that globalization has ushered in the 21st century.

Our vision is infused with the recognition that we are one global community striving to achieve the same ultimate goals, and it is only through global awareness that each individual can start to make a difference.
