The Cardinals men's soccer team finished our 2009 season with a loss against Shoreline CC 1-2. Even though, the result was not what we were looking for but it did not reflect on all the positives we were able to achieve this season. The coaching staff is extremely proud on how the team were able to fight ourselves back in the second half of the season. The program would like to thank everyone who was involved in helping to rebuild this year. Special thanks to our alumni and supporters who were able to make this year happen.

11/4/09
Going into the last 2 games of the season. The SVC Men's Soccer Team still had a chance to make the NWAACC playoffs. However, our hopes were foiled with a 2-2 tie against Everett CC today. The Trojans took advantage of our lack of focus in the first half and scored two early goals. Again, with character and determination, the Cardinal Men were able to rebound back with two second half goals by Henrik Iversen in the 51st min and Rodrigo Campos in the 84th min. We were pushing for the win, however, we could not find the back of the net one more time after several great chances. Our last home game is going to be on this Saturday against Shoreline CC. Come out and support the graduating sophomores!

SVC Men's Soccer Team tied 2-2 against Whatcom CC at home. Whatcom came in the match seeded on the top of the Northern Division. Early in the game, Whatcom came out the gates strong by scoring an early goal at the 15th min to go up 1-0. The Cardinals men had our share of opportunities in the first half but it's the play of our keeper Johnny Wong that kept us in the game. After Whatcom scored another goal to go up 2-0 early in the second half, the coaching staff and the players understood the importance to get back in order to keep our playoff goal alive. Our tenacity was awarded with a goal by Waed Ali (69min) and later with a stunning shot by Curtis Hacksworth (86min) to tie the game.  The coaching staff is proud of Cardinals men's effort and their decision to fight ourselves back. We are looking to prepare for next opponent Everett CC on Wednesday 11/4 at 2pm.

SVC Men's Soccer Team won 4-3 against Edmonds CC on our Wally Sigmar Field. The Cardinal men had to battle until the last minute against a quality side led by coach Brandon Mitalas. This game contained four different lead changes until finally the Cardinal were ahead at 78th minute and was able to hold the lead until the whistle blew. Four different players found the back of the net which reflected the total team effort. The scorers included David Navarro (D), Curtis Hacksworth (F), Daniel Burns (M), and finally Henrik Iversen (M) with the game winner. The coaching staff is pleased with today's result taking in consideration of the result of the last encounter which the Cardinal men were outclassed 1-5. This game reflected the improvement of the program since the beginning of the season. However, we must start to look forward to prepare for our next opponent Whatcom CC on Sat Oct 31st at 2pm on Wally Sigmar Field.

SVC Men's Soccer Team lost 1-3 to Shoreline CC yesterday on a rainy day.  After a great start by scoring a early goal by Daniel Burns (FW) for the Cardinals side. The SCC Men's team was able to equalize on the 44th min right before half time. This swayed the momentum to our opponent and they were able to grab the lead in the second half. However, the Cardinal men were not flustered by the deficit and were able to create many opportunities including a one be one situation that missed inches off the post. SCC secured the win by scoring late in the game. The coaching staff is still pleased with the performance taking in consideration of many injuries of the starting lineup.

1) Always make sure that you spend about 20 minutes before and after activity to stretch. Flexibility is a key component in not only the prevention of injury but it plays a huge role in enhancing performance and longevity in the game as well. Male soccer players need to pay special attention to the hamstrings, groin and hip flexors.
2) Your diet is also key. The food and liquids that you take in give you the fuel necessary to perform at a higher level. Take the time to eat a lot of fresh fruits and fresh vegetables and drink a lot of water in the next month. Stay away from sodas and junk food. Also, the amount of sleep that you get is very important. Trying to train and play on minimal sleep is not going to help your performance.
3) After stretching, run (not jog), 3 miles - 3 times a week. Write down your times and try to better it each time out.
4) After stretching do the 200 yard sprint shuttle 3 times a week. Perform it on opposite days of the 3 mile run.
Place a marker at a starting line. Place another one at the 10 yard mark, another at the 20 yard mark, 30 yard mark and 40 yard mark. Sprint to the 1st cone and back, out to the 2nd and back, out to the 3rd and back and out to the 4th and back. (The total distance covered is 200 yards.)You must try and make it in 36 seconds or less!
Rest for exactly 3x36 seconds = 108 seconds, no more and then go again. Repeat 8 times for the first two weeks. The next two weeks do the same activity but decrease the rest to exactly 72 seconds. Repeat 7 times.
5) Do at least 500 sit-ups and 200 push-ups daily. Vary type.
6) Play with the ball at least 45 minutes everyday. Work to improve your strengths.
