Welcome to the SVC Tutoring Center
We're here to help students help themselves to achieve academic success. We are located in Lewis Hall, Room L-203. There are two main types of tutoring available on the Mount Vernon Campus.
One-on-one tutoring, where students meet regularly with a tutor over the course of the quarter is available to eligible students, along with other academic services, through the TRIO Student Support Services Program. To find out about eligibility and other services, check out their web page by Clicking Here.
Campus-wide tutoring, which includes a variety of tutoring options, is available free of charge to all students enrolled in classes here at SVC. Campus-wide services are described below:
Tutors are available to assist students who need extra help with math. Drop-in math tutors can help with most levels - from basic math through calculus. You can drop by any time during scheduled hours. The drop-in tutors wear nametags and circulate around the room to help students as needed. Let the tutor know you would like some assistance. Drop-in tutoring may also be available in other subjects. Drop-in math tutoring schedules and information on current subjects being tutored are available in L-221, or Click Here.
Writing tutoring is available to all SVC students in the Writing Center, located in L-321 on the Mount Vernon Campus. For complete information, see “Writing Center” in the options at left.
English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors can help ESL students with their writing and other assignments. Students sign up in advance for a 30-minute tutoring session. ESL tutors can be identified by the "ESL Tutor" sign on their table. Sign-up sheets and schedules are available in L-20.
All SVC students have access to free online tutoring through the Northwest eTutoring Consortium! Tutors can help with a variety of subjects including accounting, sciences, math, writing, and more. eTutoring services include:
- eWriting Lab allows you to submit a draft of your paper to an eTutor, ask for specific feedback, and receive your work back with an eTutor's response within 24-48 hours.
- eChat allows you to meet live with an eTutor in one-on-one tutoring sessions via a fully interactive, virtual online environment.
- eQuestions allows you to leave a specific question in any subject for an eTutor. You will receive a response within 48 hours (usually sooner). How do you get started? Log on to eTutoring at:http://www.skagit.edu/etutor
