Learning Into Action
Learning Into Action is a general education requirement for Skagit Valley College's AAUCT Degree on the Mount Vernon, Whidbey Island and San Juan Campuses. Learning Into Action is designed to help students think analytically about knowledge and theory gained in the college classroom and develop an independent project in which to apply that knowledge and skill. The project may relate to career exploration, continuing education, or the "real world of work". The student, faculty sponsor, Learning Into Action coordinator and site supervisor work together in supporting student learning objectives related to a specific placement or project.

Students who have approximately 45 transferable credits are eligible to begin their Learning Into Action (LIA) project. International students may begin their LIA project prior to earning 45 credits with approval from the Career Services Director and the student's Faculty Sponsor.
Students are responsible for locating a placement (paid or unpaid) with an agency or organization, on-campus or off, that is able to provide an experience that meets the student's learning objectives. Placement resources include the Learning Into Action Information Board (in hallway outside Counseling Center) and the LIA Placement Database (see this website).
You must complete the online LIA Orientation before starting a LIA project. After viewing the orientation, read the syllabus and download the forms before contacting Pam Church, LIA Coordinator (Mt. Vernon) (On-ground Info-sessions are listed on the LIA Orientation page).
