Brian Murphy

Director of Student Life

Welcome! My name is Brian Murphy and I have worked and coached at Skagit Valley College since September of 1998, starting as the Athletics Activities Coordinator and Assistant Baseball Coach. In 2009, my job was expanded to include responsibilities in the Student Life Office in addition to Athletics. Those responsibilities have included advising the Associated Students of Skagit Valley College, serving as a Student Conduct Administrator, and serving as the Knutzen Cardinal Center Manager. I have served in many other capacities at SVC as well, and am now embracing my role as the Director of Student Life. I oversee all aspects of the Student Life Office, including the ASSVC, Student Program Board, Student Clubs and Advisors, Health Services Office, as well as office and support staff for all things Student Life. I was born and raised in Olympia, Washington, graduating from Olympia High School in 1991 and then moving on to receive a degree in Recreation Management from Western Washington University in 1995. While still working at Skagit Valley College, I went back to school and received a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Leadership from Seattle Pacific University in 2008. When not at work I love to spend time with my family, preferably doing something in the outdoors, such as hiking, skiing, or fishing and I am also an avid watcher of sports on TV.

I hope you have great success at Skagit Valley College. We would love to have you come visit us in Student Life and get involved with campus outside the classroom. Give us a call or stop by the Student Life Office if you have any questions.

I presently live in Bellingham, Washington with my wife Katy and daughters Grace (15), and Natalie (12).

Mike Murdock

Student Life Graphics Designer & Webmaster

I love Skagit Valley College, and am glad you are a part of this great educational institution, either as a teacher, staff member or student! I first went to school at SVC in the 1970s, and always hoped and crossed my fingers that I could teach and work here. Miracles happen sometimes!

SVC has grown quite a bit since I first crossed its borders some years ago, but I can see that it's heart has grown along with all the new buildings.

Come visit me in my new office in the Student Life department. Tell me what your dreams and aspirations are!

Presently, I am the graphics designer, webmaster and videographer for the Student Life office. It is such a privilege to design posters and TV presentations for Student Government and Program Board; and I have had such a great time stitching the new ASSVC website together.

I am also an adjunct instructor in the MIT Department, and currently teach Search Engine Optimization, CMS Fundamentals, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Digital Videography. Prior to becoming an instructor for the MIT Department, I served as an Advisory Committee Member for the MIT Department.

I have an ATA in Multimedia and Interactive Technology and a BA in English Literature. I am a past member of Phi Theta Kappa, and was honored with the 2006 Outstanding Student Award from the MIT Department at Skagit Valley College.

Go Cardinals!
