Rocio Almaraz: Rocio Almaraz, nominated by Maureen Harlan, is a junior at La Conner High School. She is a class leader and cheerleader. Even though she has many responsibilities at home, she has been able to earn a 2.8 GPA. Her dream is to attend college to become a pediatrician.

Carl Buher: Carl Buher, nominated by Maureen Harlan, is a junior at La Conner High School. A straight A student who survived bacterial meningitis his freshman year, Carl has surmounted incredible odds that favored death. His optimism and love of life have carried him this far and his future is wide open with plans on studying architecture.

Stephanie Carney: Stephanie Carney, nominated by Margaret Perez, is a senior at State Street High School. She is an active member of the diversity committee at Cascades Job Corps and Raza Unida Club where she helped with the Cinco de Mayo and Fiestas Patrias events.She plans to pursue a nursing degree.

   

Maria Elisa Chavez de Tinoco: Maria Elisa Chavez de Tinoco, nominated by Laural Ringler, is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. She volunteers at Westview Elementary as a bilingual translator and works at an insurance office where she uses her office and computer skills.  She plans to study cosmetology.

Alinson Dejesus-Nash (NO PHOTO): Alinson Dejesus-Nash, nominated by Gordy Waite, is a junior at Friday Harbor High School. She is an avid soccer player and referee. She mentors students in Spanish and translates for new students. She is enrolled in 3 AP classes with a goal of attending a 4 year university to study law.

Jessica Eaton (NO PHOTO): Jessica Eaton, nominated by Shannan Dumke, is a senior at South Whidbey High School. She has mentored for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, coached youth basketball and worked with Hearts and Hammers. She has earned a 3.9 GPA while playing 3 varsity sports and plans to earn a communications degree.

Maricela Flores: Maricela Flores, nominated by Margaret Perez, is a senior at State Street High School. She is an active member of the diversity committee at Cascades Job Corps and Raza U-nee-da Club where she helped with the Cinco de Mayo and Fiestas Patrias events. She helped raise funds for tsunami victims.  She plans to pursue a nursing degree.

Vaani Ganeson: Vaani Ganeson, nominated by Bob Hoare, is a freshman at Mount Vernon High School. She is an honors student, plays cello in the school orchestra and swims varsity for the Bulldogs. This year her relay team broke two 11 year old high school records. She choreographs her own dances to East Indian rock music and plans to be a medical researcher.

Orlando Garcia: Orlando Garcia, nominated by Rita Ordonez, is a junior at Sedro Woolley High School. He is a member of the French club and also a Spanish/English translator for his family.  He is a leader in the making who plans to major in Drama-acting and directing.

Gregory Hsu (NO PHOTO): Gregory Hsu, nominated by Jon Ronngren, is a senior at Anacortes High School. He has helped with highway cleanup, assisted in Relay for Life and worked with elementary students.  He has a 3.89 GPA and has taken rigorous classes including AP calculus and science. He plans to study engineering.

Brian Jo: Brian Jo, nominated by Jon Ronngren, is a senior at Anacortes High School. He has been active in International Club and has taken challenging courses including Pre-calculus and AP language Composition. He won the Korean Speech contest and plays tennis for the high school team. He plans to study communications or military science.

Astor Kidane: Astor Kidane, nominated by Bobby McCarty, is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. An outstanding student, excellent athlete and active participant in campus groups, Astor maintains a 3.8GPA. She is a musician, class officer and link leader who plans to study physical therapy, sports medicine or law.

Raymond Koopmans: Raymond Koopmans, nominated by Rita Ordonez, is a junior at Mount Vernon High School.  He is an important member of the Diversity Task Force for Mount Vernon School District and has been a participant in the UW Trio Talent Search program for 3 years. He plans to study medicine.

Daniel Lee: Daniel Lee, nominated by Dan Brehm, is a senior at Burlington-Edison High School. Daniel ranks 7th in a class of 230. He is vice president of the medical club and volunteers at Skagit Valley Hospital. A natural Helper and Peer Mentor, he is a 3 season sport athlete including swimming, track and cross country. He plans to pursue a degree in medicine.

Irasema Macedo: Irasema Macedo, nominated by Carla Roberts-Hurst, is a senior at Sedro Woolley High School. She is active in her church and community.  She has participated in the Farmworker Solidarity March, the MEChA Fashion Show and Fiesta in America. She serves as a teacher's aid and tutors 5-6 year olds. She plans to study to become a paralegal.

Britta Madison: Britta Madison, nominated by Susan Koffin, is a senior at South Whidbey High School. She has coordinated food drives, dinners for orphans and coached younger students in sports. She plays 3 sports- track, cross country and basketball. With a 3.85 GPA, her dream of becoming a lawyer or business administrator will certainly come true.

Mariya Mathias: Mariya Mathias, nominated by Becky Covington, is a junior at Sedro Woolley High School. She is an Upper Skagit Tribal member. She is a member of the Youth council, helps out at tribal functions and participates in regional activities for Native Americans. She plans to major in Business and run a small business.

Katherine Paul: Katherine Paul, nominated by Maureen Harlan, is a junior at La Conner High School. She is Vice President of Key Club, has participated in the blood drive, has been a bell ringer for Salvation Army and painted the fence at Gashes Mansion. She plays flute, piano, drums and guitar and is a softball and volleyball player who plans to focus on Women's Studies.

Veronica Perez: Veronica Perez, nominated by Bobby McCarty, is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. She is a member of the Peace and Justice Club, Debate Club and Senate and served as a class officer her freshman year. She has been a link leader and played soccer and track. She works part time at Wee Care and hopes to major in history and become a teacher.

Ariadna Puente-Gomez: Ariadna Puente-Gomez, nominated by Margaret Perez, is a senior at State Street High School. She is active in the Raza Unida Club and Diversity Committee at Cascade Job Corps.  She assisted with the women's and Mexican history events as well as helped raise funds for tsunami victims.  She plans to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Carolina Ramos: Carolina Ramos, nominated by Shugay Vanderpool, is a junior at La Conner High School. She has volunteered at the Lincoln Theatre, the La Conner Regional Historical Museum and the La Conner Retirement annual yard sale. She has served the PTA by helping with the annual Halloween party. She has a 3.9 GPA and plans to enter the medical field. 

Eric Sanchez: Eric Sanchez, nominated by Maria Gomez, is a junior at Sedro Woolley High School.  He trick or treated for UNICEF and collected canned goods for the food bank and toys for Toys for Tots. He has been active in San Carlos Church and fundraised for tsunami victims. He is Vice President of FBLA and plans to study law or business.

Evaristo Solano: Evaristo Solano, nominated by Heath Tayon, is a junior at Mount Vernon High School. He is a wrestler and volunteer wrestling coach who gives unselfishly of his time. He has helped landscape yards and moved furniture without pay. Evaristo decided to turn his life around and he has done so and plans to enroll in college.

Daisy Torres: Daisy Torres, nominated by Maria Perez, is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. She will be the first in her family to graduate from high school. She has played soccer for the high school for 4 years and also plays on a second team.  She is hardworking and determined. She plans to become a registered nurse.

Brian Trinh:Brian Trinh, nominated by Jill Weber, is a junior at Concrete High School. He is a running start student who tutors college math and chemistry. As an athlete he has received medals in karate and track. As a musician he plays the piano and performs locally. He is a gifted math and science student who plans on becoming an ophthalmologist.

Phelan Trinh: Phelan Trinh, nominated by Jill Weber is a senior at Concrete High School. He is an outstanding science and math student who has represented his school at the Economics Challenge and Junior Olympics. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and will graduate with an Associate in Science degree in June. He plans to complete a PHD in Engineering.

Philip Trinh: Philip Trinh, nominated by Jill Weber, is a senior at Concrete High School. A running start student who will graduate with an Associate in Science degree, he is an active member of the science club. He plays the baritone, trumpet and piano and has been a Junior Olympic medalist. He plans on becoming an Aerospace Engineer.
