Epperson Reaches The 800 Win Plateau
Steve Epperson recently reached the 800 win plateau as the Head Coach of the Skagit Valley College women’s basketball team. The milestone win was a 102-71 victory over South Puget Sound Community College on Friday, December 20th in the recent Yakima Valley College Crossover Tournament. It was the first game Steve had coached in the Yakima Valley gym since the Championship game of the 1996 NWAACC Tournament. The Cardinals won that game as well to claim the NWAACC Title and finish off a 32-0 season. Epperson has been the Head Coach of the SVC Women’s Basketball team since 1977 and has led the Cardinals to 25 seasons of 20+ wins. In that span the Cardinals have won 20 North Region Titles and 4 NWAACC Conference Championships. Steve has also seen countless student-athletes move on to play at 4-year schools and many have ended up moving into coaching as well.
The Skagit Valley College Foundation and the Skagit Valley College Athletic Department will host a celebration of Steve’s accomplishment on Saturday, February 1st. The Cardinal women’s game against Edmonds will begin at 4PM on the 1st with a ceremony immediately following on the court and a reception in the Knutzen Cardinal Center. The men’s game on the 1st will begin at 7PM.
