This Learning Community explores the relationship between global issues (conflict, poverty, globalization, and environmental issues) and mass communication (advertising, public relations, and popular media).

Through the study of the novel as fiction, poetry and short story, students will be exposed to some of the outlaws and outcasts of American Literature.

Writing in the Disciplines (10 credits)–ENGL 104/BUS& 201 or PHIL 215C or SOC& 101
This Learning Community explores the nature of research and writing as it is practiced in specific disciplines. Prerequisite: Grade of 2.0 or better in ENGL& 101. 

Controlling the Chaos: Art and History in the Modern Era (10 credits)–ART 144/HIST& 118
Goya, Picasso, Dali, Napoleon, Hitler, Kennedy. This Learning Community explores the birth and development of the "modern" sensibility of the western world amidst the chaos of the 19th and 20th centuries.

It's the Economy, Stupid (10 credits)–CMST& 102/ECON 101
This learning community will explore the relationship between mass communication (advertising, public relations, popular media, etc.) and economics (markets, taxes, spending, unemployment, etc.) during the 2012 U.S. presidential election.

English 101: Writing By The Book (6 credits)–ENGL& 101/READ 107
All students will read a book that is currently in the news. The course combination will sharpen reading and thinking skills while providing a forum for polishing college writing. Prerequisite: Appropriate test scores or a grade of "C" or higher in ENGL 99.

This Learning Community explores the nature of research and writing as practiced in specific disciplines. Prerequisite: Grade of 2.0 or better in ENGL& 101.

Native Art of the Salish Sea (D, W) (10 credits)–ART 141/ENGL233
This online course explores Native American art of Puget Sound and surrounding watersheds from the earliest times to present day. One required field trip to an art museum.
