Maria Gabriela Alanis is working on her GED at Skagit Valley College. Gabby has overcome great barriers and is a role model for young Chicanas as a Mechista and Aztec dancer.  She is proud of her culture and hopes to assist others in becoming self determined and successful. She will receive $1000 from SVC's MEChA Chapter to attend Skagit Valley College.

Freiner Armenta Espinoza is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Freiner is a knowledge-thirsty student with a keen curiosity. He is an active member of the Latino dance club, where he enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping others. He will receive $2500 from KSVR Radio Bilingue to attend Skagit Valley College.

Adrian Arvizu is a senior at South Whidbey High School. Adrian is a model student and leader involved in the performing arts programs of jazz band, wind ensemble and symphony. He has a 3.8 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in music. He will receive $2000 to attend Western Washington University.

Sarai Ayon is a senior at Emerson High School. Sarai is a leader in promoting a school environment that welcomes and values each individual. She models tolerance, acceptance and appreciation. She plans to become a veterinarian. She will receive $1000 from the MV AAUW and Rani Ganeson Fund to attend Skagit Valley College.

Peter Badillo is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Peter is an outstanding young man who leads by example. He has an innate integrity that comes through in all that he does. He is considering education as a profession. He will receive $2000 to attend Western Washington University.

Briana Bogh is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. Briana has been a tutor and role model for elementary students at Kulshan Creek Tutor Time. She is a youth leader at her church and a volunteer with Soroptomist International. She will receive $3000 to attend The Evergreen State College.

Javier Capote is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Javier is an active member of the MEChA and AVID clubs where he is a role model. He has volunteered at the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Auction as well as for the Burlington Edison Education Coalition. She will receive $1000 from SVC's MEChA Chapter to attend Skagit Valley College.

Rosa Capote is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Rosa came to the U.S. when she was three years old. She is a very reliable student-involved in her church as a youth leader where she organizes activities for the younger members. She will receive $3000 from SBCTC Opportunity Grant to attend Skagit Valley College and $2000 to attend Western Washington University.

Manuel Chavez is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. Manuel is a leader by example. He is a three sport athlete- wrestling, football, and track. He is excellent at advocating for himself and plans to be a medical assistant. He will receive $3000 from SBCTC Opportunity Grant to attend Skagit Valley College.

Rigoberto Chavez Espinoza is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. Rigoberto helped his family construct their Habitat for Humanity home. At school he discusses ways to close the gap between Anglo and Hispanic youth. He plans to study automotive technology. He will receive $1000 to attend Skagit Valley College.

Gilberto Chino is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. Gilberto has demonstrated leadership in the VICA Auto Club and has created bridges between different groups that belong to the club. His goal is to become an auto mechanic. He will receive $1000 to attend Skagit Valley College.

Fredy Delgado is a senior at State Street High School. Fredy came to State Street last year and quickly rose up as a leader. He is working full time to help his family.  He is interested in auto mechanics. He will receive $1000 to attend Skagit Valley College.

Diana Diaz is a senior at Sedro Woolley High School. Diana is a leader who participates in the Migrant Ambassadors program and volunteers at United General Hospital. She founded the Spanish Club that offers a place for cross cultural communication. She will receive $1500 to attend University of Washington.

Nicholas Estep is a senior at Burlington Edison High School. Nick's passion is athletics; he also participates in Future Farmer's of America and leads by example. He has chosen Welding and Pipefitting as his career. He will receive $3000 from SBCTC Opportunity Grant to attend Skagit Valley College.

Derek Hickman is a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School. Derek works to create a climate of respect. He is president of the Key Club and belongs to the Japanese Club bringing awareness and celebration of other cultures to the school. He will receive $2000 to attend Western Washington University.

Kevin Houser is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Kevin has changed the preconceptions of his teachers and peers by enrolling in the most challenging courses offered at his school. He plans on becoming a meteorologist. He will receive $1000 from Science Partnership Fund to attend Skagit Valley College.

Erica Ibarra is a senior at Burlington Edison North High School. Erica is a positive role model. She interprets for teachers, students and parents and is active in the Giving Tree, Food Drive and Adopt-a-Family for Christmas program.  She plans to be a legal assistant. She will receive $1000 to attend Skagit Valley College.

Elizabeth Maddax is a senior at Mount Vernon High School.  Elizabeth volunteers through Key Club and the National Honor Society in the community. She prides herself on always having respect for everyone, being bilingual and maintaining a 3.5 GPA. She will receive $1500 to attend Washington State University.

He is involved in Future Farmers of America, AVID, and volunteers for Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland. He plans to study animal science. She has a very friendly personality and cares about those around her.  She plans to major in Early Childhood Education. Carlos Pineda is a senior at Midway High School. Carlos is the ASB Representative and takes pride in attending the alternative school. He promotes a sense of community among students who often feel embarrassed by their circumstances.  He would like to study engineering. He will receive $1000 from Carlos R. Ordonez Memorial Scholarship to attend Skagit Valley College.

Daniel Reynoso is a senior at Mount Vernon High School. Daniel gives back to his fellow classmates by using his bilingual skills to help others. He plans to major in architecture where he will work hard and achieve great results. He will receive $1500 to attend Washington State University.

She works to break down barriers between different groups at school. She has a 3.1 GPA and plans to major in Drama. She will receive $3000 to attend The Evergreen State College.

He is now in the United States by himself trying to earn money to further his education. He plans to major in Mechanics. She plans to become an elementary school teacher. She will receive $1000 to attend Skagit Valley College.

She has stayed in school and is dedicated to graduating with a high GPA.  She would like to provide for her daughter by having a career in Human Services.
