Barbara A. Smith's interests are in mentoring Early Childhood Education Professionals and encouraging families in the parenting of their young children. She has three grown children and six grandchildren.
Barbara earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Art Education from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Since moving to Skagit County from King County, Barbara has served as President of the Organization of Parenting Education Programs (O.P.E.P.) in Washington State Community Colleges and Technical Colleges. She has served as Parent Educator at SVC, Early Learning Specialist for NWESD 189, Program Specialist for Reading Readiness for Two's, Born Learning Lead for Skagit County, Board Member of Children's Council of Skagit County, Committee Member for Public Awareness for Skagit Early Learning as well as short term preschool teacher in Nigeria, West Africa and local elementary school teacher.
Ann Marie Reid, Parenting Education Instructor
Ann Marie has a taught parenting classes since 1988. She has a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington and extensive experience working with children and families,both in pediatric nursing and emergency department settings as well as parenting. Ann Marie's parenting and teaching philosophy is influenced by values such as focusing on strengths, mutual respect, kindness and firmness at the same time, relationship building and looking for solutions first rather than punishment. Ann Marie has 3 grown sons.
Nancy Ewert, Parenting Education Instructor
Nancy Ewert’s academic background is in Rehabilitation Counseling and for many years she worked with disabled adults. After moving to Lopez Island in 1988, she began her most important career as a parent of three daughters. This led her to her commitment to parenting education which she has embraced for the last 8 years.
