    Casey Mitchell
    Pitching Coach
    360.416.7827
    Casey.Mitchell@Skagit.edu

Casey Mitchell is entering his second year as the pitching coach with the Skagit Valley College baseball program. Outside of his pitching duties, Casey also handles a large part of the recruiting process. Coach Mitchell will be entering his 4th full year of coaching with experience at the Division II and Junior College level.

Before joining the coaching staff at Skagit Valley in 2013, Coach Mitchell spent two years at St. Martin’s University, under head coach Ken Garland. While there, he spent his first year with the St. Martin’s program as an undergraduate assistant working alongside Joe Dominiak, the team’s pitching coach. Following the 2012 season, Coach Mitchell was hired as the Saint's full time pitching coach by Garland. In his first full season in charge of the pitching staff, Mitchell lowered the team era by almost a full point in the 2013 season. While at SMU, Casey coached 1st Team All-GNAC pitcher Tommy Deboer (LHP) in 2012, honorable mention Brendon Jeffers (RHP) in 2013, as well as NCBWA All-West Region Freshman of the Year Chandler Tracy (Catcher) in 2012. Tracy also went on to receive 2nd Team All-GNAC in 2013.

As a player, Casey pitched his freshman year at Spokane Falls CC in the NWAC, before transferring to St. Martin’s University to finish out his college career. While at SMU, Casey was an integral part of the Saint’s pitching staff and finished his career with numerous GNAC records for his performance. He finished T-14th in career wins, 13th in appearances (54), T-4th in shutouts, 16th in innings pitched (201.2), and 7th in fewest walks per 9 innings (1.70). Casey also finished inside the top 50 across the country for fewest walks per nine innings twice (‘09/’11) at the Division II level, and helped the 2011 SMU team set the school record in wins.

“Coach Garland gave me an opportunity that I will never forget, not only for bringing me into the program as a player but allowing me to begin my dream of coaching college baseball. I enjoyed every minute I spent with Coach Garland, he is an unbelievable motivator.”

Outside of direct school affiliations, Mitchell worked as a tournament director for GSL Tournaments, which offers tournaments for 10u through 18u summer teams in the Greater Seattle area (2012-2013). Casey has also coached with the well respected NW Elite program for 3 years. NW Elite is a travel program that takes advanced 13-18 year old players to various locations across the country; such as Baltimore, Myrtle Beach, North Carolina, Minnesota, and Las Vegas. This past summer, he coached in the inaugural year of the Northwest Collegiate Baseball League as the head coach for the Pilchuck Pioneers and is in line to return for a second season in 2015. Mitchell also coached in the Puget Sound Collegiate league in 2011, taking the Lacey Saints to a deep playoff run.

Coach Mitchell was born and raised in Olympia, Washington and Son to Jerry and Tracy Mitchell.

Andrew Moore - Second Team All Region - Outfielder

Two SVC baseball players were announced to the 2015 All-Academic Team for their performance in the classroom:

Brad played and coached at Skagit Valley College and most recently was the head coach at Sedro-Woolley High School. He is also a member of the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. The award will be given annually to the SVC baseball player who "demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and embodies excellence on the field." This years recipient:

The Cardinal baseball program had the opportunity to be a part of several community service projects over the course of the year and we look forward to another year of partnership with the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club! Thank you to everyone that helped support the Cardinals on and off the field!
