How to Register for Classes in San Juan County

Students must be registered and tuition paid before starting classes. The non-degree seeking registration form is for mail registration only.  You may register in person at San Juan Center, 221 Weber Way, Friday Harbor.

To register by MAIL ONLY:

1.  Fill out form completely.

2.  Sign name on signature line.

Send form and tuition/fee check made out to Skagit Valley College (send no lab fees, except computer lab fee) to your island coordinator.

All mail-in registrations will be processed in the order they are received.  SVC reserves the rights to return registration forms which are incompletely filled out or where payments are missing or insufficient.  If your class is full, you will be placed on a waiting list and your money refunded.

Classes lacking minimum enrollment may be canceled.  Register early so the instructor will be able to provide materials and texts for all students at the first class.  (By prior arrangement with coordinator, some registrations are conducted at the first class.)  After registering, you are responsible to make arrangements directly with the instructor if you cannot attend the first class.

RESIDENCY

Fees listed for credit classes apply to Washington State residents.  A resident is one who has established residency for 12 months prior to start of the quarter.  (Car registration, Washington driver's license, and/or voter registration card is needed.)

REFUND POLICY

1.   A full refund is given for any course cancelled by Skagit Valley College.

2.   Refunds for withdrawals will be made according to the following schedule:

Fall 2005

100%             Before September 19

80%                September 19-23

50%                September 26-30

40%                October 3-8

0%                  October 9 or later

3.   Refunds for a reduction in credit hours will occur only if the total number of credits remaining is less than the number of credits stipulated as full-time (10 through 18 credits).

4.   For fall course sections starting prior to the first officially scheduled day of the quarter or after the fifth officially scheduled day of instruction for the quarter, refunds will be calculated for each course section in a manner consistent with the above schedule, using the first day of class in place of the first officially scheduled day of the quarter.  This includes courses enrolled via electronic waitlist.

5.   It is the student's responsibility to notify registration of drop status within the refund period.

WAIT LIST POLICY

Most Skagit Valley College courses will not have a waitlist.  If a class is full when you register in-person, on the web, or by touch-tone, you will have the option to be placed on the waitlist for that course.  If someone drops the course and you are on the waitlist, you will be automatically registered for the course.  Please note: It is the student's responsibility to monitor their movement on the waitlist.  Students will be charged for all classes in which they are enrolled.

FALL QUARTER COLLEGE HOLIDAYS (office closed/no classes): Nov 11
(Veterans Day), Nov. 24 & 25 (Thanksgiving)

VOLUNTEER TUTORS WANTED:  Anyone interested in volunteering to help at the San Juan Center, please apply at the office.

SENIOR CITIZENS AUDIT PROGRAM: If you are a senior citizen, you may audit regular college courses, on space-available-basis, for a small fee.  In order to qualify for the reduced rate you must be at least 60 years of age and not be using the credits to improve credentials or gain salary increases.   This reduced fee is limited to two classes per quarter.  The fee reduction does not include community service or other self supported classes.
