I am the full-time director of Multicultural Student Services as well as the advisor to the Calling All Colors Club. I have been involved in the field of multicultural education for 37 years. I have taught kindergarten through college age students of all ethnic backgrounds; worked as a bilingual educator in Southern California, a special educator on an Arizona Indian reservation, a bilingual consultant for a major Michigan school district, and as a multicultural teacher trainer in Idaho. Besides serving as your director, counselor and club advisor, I teach student leadership seminar each quarter and facilitate the annual Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all backgrounds and look forward to helping you reach your goals.
Perla Santillan
Calling All Colors
Psantillan4918@mysvc.skagit.edu
Hello everyone and welcome to the 2010 Fall quarter. My name is Perla Santillan and this is my second year at Skagit Valley College. I graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the dream of becoming an educator. I think Calling All Colors has been a contributor to my success because I am not only growing academically but also as a person. Calling All Colors has given me the opportunity to learn about different cultures and learn to appreciate them. Being involved in this club gives me a sense of gratitude because as an active member of the club I get to help around the community and it feels good to be able to do that through Calling All Colors. My hope for this year is to have a successful year just like the past years. I am excited to be this quarter`s head of the club. I am looking forward to our future activities and to what Calling All Colors as a whole has to offer to the college and our community.
Cassandra Lopez
Bi-Lingual Outreach Assistant
Multicultural Student Services
Hi my name is Cassandra Lopez, I am majoring in Human Services to help the Latino community and help them overcome the barriers that may hold them back. This is my second year at SVC; during the first year I was a work-study student in the counseling office and became an active member in the Calling All Colors Club. In both of these experiences I am helping students or contributing to my community. These are both good essentials for the Human Services degree. I have done my practicum at the Skagit County Youth and Family Services. I have learned to overcome many barriers to get where I am in life and help many individuals achieve their dreams also. My goal is to finish my major this year and transfer to W.W.U for my Bachelor's degree. My advice to any individual would be: "Never give up! Because behind those barriers may be your dreams waiting for you."

I am Christine Rivas and I graduated from Mount Vernon High School. This is my first year at Skagit Valley College and it's just a great experience coming here. Photography is something that I like to do in my spare time and I never really considered furthering my learning about it but I am glad that I am. One great opportunity that I got to do was to take pictures for Macho Volleyball for my class bulldog service project at MVHS. Being part of a club that accepts anyone is really interesting and I can't believe that I get the opportunity to expand my growth as a person and be the photographer for "Calling All Colors."

After attending Skagit Valley College for the past two years I've completed both my Certificate in Graphic Design and Adobe Certificate and am looking forward to finishing my transfer degree to eventually attend the University of Washington to continue my education. The skills gained here at SVC have been instrumental in procuring work both here as the web designer at SVC in the Multicultural Student Services office and in the private sector locally as well. I'm particularly grateful of the opportunities that have been introduced to my professional life by the training offered here at SVC and look forward to using those skills and building upon them in the future.
