Available  to first generation college students who have been successful in school  and are actively involved in the Calling All Colors Club. Application deadline is Noon  June 10, 2011 - Fall Quarter 2011, Noon November 18, 2011 - Winter  Quarter 2012, Noon  February 17, 2012 - Spring Quarter, 2012.

 

KSVR Bilingual Student Scholarship

Open to Spanish/English bilingual students interested in providing news for the community via KSVR Radio Bilingüe. Application deadline is Noon  June 10, 2011 - Fall Quarter 2011, Noon November 18, 2011 - Winter  Quarter 2012, Noon  February 17, 2012 - Spring Quarter, 2012.

 

Multicultural Foundation Scholarship

Merit and need based scholarships awarded in various amounts available to self-identified multicultural students. Application deadline is March 18, 2011

 

Carlos R. Ordóñez Memorial Scholarship

Awarded  to a graduating Spanish speaking immigrant high school senior with a  2.5 GPA planning to enroll at Skagit Valley College. Preference given  to a nominated Champion of Diversity.

  Scholarships range from $1,000 - $3,000. Criteria vary by scholarship program.
  Deadline is May 28th.  There is also a chance to win free airline tickets! The ¡Adelante!
  Fund is partnering with Continental Airlines for the "Destino:

African American Jewish Coalition

The  June R. Chaus Scholarship assists students who are committed to working  for social justice, and who may be disadvantaged due to race,  ethnicity, national background, religious affiliation or sexual  orientation. Alternately, students who have been inspired to work for  constructive social change due to one or more of the above factors are  also welcome to apply. Annual scholarships of up to $1500 each may be  awarded to applicants who meet the following criteria: a)have been  admitted to an approved undergraduate or graduate institution in the  Pacific NW; b)are pursuing studies in Human Services, Health Care,  Education, Public Affairs or a related field; c)have demonstrated  financial need; have demonstrated strong financial aptitude;  d)successfully complete a competitive 500-word essay on an assigned  topic (see website); f)are considered to be minority students, based on  race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, or sexual orientation. American Indian Endowed Scholarship

Asian American Journalists

Offers  up to $2500 and other scholarships to students studying journalism in  the fall. Three current opportunities are: Northwest Journalists of  Color Scholarship – up to $2500 in scholarship money to students who  intend to pursue careers in journalism. Eligible applicants are  Washington state residents who will attend a college or university in  Washington in the fall; Founders' Shcolarship – covers a student  registration fee and a small travel stipend for the 2010 AAJA National  Convention, held Aug 4-7 in Los Angeles; AAJA Seattle/911 Media Arts  Student Scholarship is awarded to two students to AAJA Seattle students  members for up to $500 in costs of recipient's classes, computer lab  and rental fees at the 911 Media Arts Center in Seattle's University  District. College Success Foundation

Several  scholarship awards of up to $5000 per year for four years to eligible  students. Minimum requirements include: Washington residency (of  one-year or more), enrollment as a college freshman or sophomore or as  a high school senior who has applied for and been accepted into a four  year college/university, completion of FAFSA-Free Application for  Federal Student Aid, income limitations (see link), minimum 2.75 GPA,  plans to continue enrollment as a full-time (12 quarter credits)  student. For further information, application instructions, and other  resources for financing your education; visit the scholarship link on  the College Success Foundation website,  http://www.collegesuccessfoundation.org/

 

Gaseo Migrant Center Gloria & Joseph Mattera National Scholarship Fund For Migrant Children

Assists migrant farm worker youth who have the potential and desire to further their education to achieve their personal and career goals. The Fund grants approximately 100 awards annually ranging from $150 to $500. Eligible applicants must have: a)recent history of movement for agricultural employment – priority will be given to current interstate migrant youth; b)scholastic potential; c)financial need; d)enrolled in or accepted at an accredited public or private college, technical or vocational school. Students may reapply annually but are limited to one award per 12 month period.

 

HACU Scholarships

HACU applauds your initiative in searching for a scholarship! We hope that we will be able to assist you in defraying some of your college expenditures. Each scholarship has specific criteria, so please review each one carefully. In addition, all scholarship applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate financial need and be eligible for Federal Financial Aid (student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident).
- Meet specific criteria for the scholarships to which they are applying. 
  - Attend a HACU-member college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
 Application Deadline: June 10, 2011. Supporting documents  (enrollment verification form and transcript) must be postmarked no  later than June 10, 2011.

Indian Health Service Scholarship Program

The IHS Scholarship Program, created by the authority of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, is designed to help the agency achieve the mission of raising the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. Scholarships are available to eligible American Indian and Alaskan Natives focused on the health care profession in a variety of fields. Applications, Eligibility Criteria, and the Student Handbook may be downloaded from the HIS website http://www.scholarship.ihs.gov . Application handbooks are also available at the Mount Vernon SVC Financial Aid Office. Deadline is typically late April new applications, check the website for details. Millennium Challenge Corporation

The Millenium Challenge Corporation's (MCC) Department of Congressional and Public Affairs (CPA), is currently recruiting candidates for the summer 2010 internship session. Internships are available in the following areas: media design, congressional affairs, and public affairs. CPA is responsible for increasing public awareness of MCC's mission, goals, and its accomplishments. The Department manages MCC's relationship with members of the House and Senate, Office of Management and Budget, NGOs, think tanks, the private sector, as well as inter-agency Board representatives. In addition, CPA produces all MCC materials for public distribution, coordinates all agency public events, manages MCC's visual brand identity worldwide, and is responsible for maintaining the MCC public and internal websites. National Health Service Corps Scholarship

The National Health Service Corps scholarship pays tuition, required fees, and some other education costs, tax free, for as many as four years. Education costs may include books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, instruments, two sets of uniforms and travel for one clinical rotation. Recipients also receive a monthly living stipend ($1,269 in 2009-2010). The stipend is taxable.National Health Service Corps scholars are committed to serve one year for each year of support (minimum of two years service) at an approved site in a high-need Health Professional Shortage Area soon after they graduate, serve a primary care residency (family medicine, general pediatrics, general internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology or psychiatry for physicians and general or pediatric for dentists) and are licensed. Northwest Hawai'i Ohana (NWHO) Scholarship

One annual award of $500 to an eligible student. Top priority given to a member, or dependent of NWHO. Second priority to the child of a Hawai'i high school graduate.  Information and application form available at http://nwhawaiiohana.webs.com/scholarships.htm.
These Scholarships are due in early May every year.

 

Pride Foundation / Greater Seattle Business Association

Over $350,000 (over 50 types of scholarships with awards up to $10,000) is available to People of Color, Potential Leaders in the LGBT community, Students raised by Lesbian/Gay parents, and students who are straight allies and are committed to civil rights for the LGBTQ community. SEAMAR Community Health Center Farm Worker Scholarship

Each year Sea Mar gives $1000 Farm Worker College Scholarships to low-income college students from Washington seasonal or migrant farm worker families, who are currently enrolled in a college or university, and who are planning to continue their education in the next academic year. Students who have previously received Sea Mar scholarships are not eligible. Sealaska Heritage Institute

Applicants must be: Alaska Natives who are defined as "Native" under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and enrolled to Sealaska Corp.; or, Native lineal descendants of Alaska Natives enrolled to Sealaska Corp., whether or not the applicant owns Sealaska Corp. stock. Be accepted or admitted into an accredited college/university or an accredited voc/tech school. Be a full-time student (generally 12 credits per semester for undergraduates, 9 credits per semester for graduate students).Application and information available at http://www.sealaskaheritage.org/programs/scholarships.html. USA Funds Access To Education

Are  open to high school seniors, currently enrolled college or professional  degree students who: plan to enroll in a full- or half-time  undergraduate or full-time graduate or professional degree at an  accredited 2-4 year school beginning with fall term 2010,; have an  adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less on a 2009 federal 1040  tax return on which the student was claimed as a federal tax  exemption,; are US citizens or eligible noncitizens (see website for  additional information and criteria.) Application Deadline is Feb. 15 every year.  Get all the information at  http://www.usafunds.org/students/Pages/Access2EdSchol.aspx

Is  a new, one-stop, free, student-centered, online clearing house for  Washington students seeking college scholarships. Launched in January  2010 by the public/private Washington Scholarship Coalition, this site  is designed to make it easier for Washington students to efficiently  find and apply for relevant scholarships. This user-friendly site  allows students to search and apply for verified scholarships that are  specific to their academic interests, college or university, or other  criteria. Whatcom Hispanic Organization

Promising members of the Hispanic Community who are: permanent Whatcom or Skagit County Residents, strongly involved in school & community service activities, enrolled at least half-time at an accredited college or university and maintaining satisfactory academic progress may apply for a $1,000 scholarship.
