A $1,000 scholarship available to all high school juniors and seniors, as well as all students currently registered in an accredited post secondary institution. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN, ANACORTES BRANCH  A $2000 award to assist a woman who is seeking an education to become employable. Applicant qualifications include: Fidalgo or Guemes Island residency for the last three years; head of household status and show financial need; entrance or enrollment in a vocational certification program/undergraduate degree/ or taking courses beyond the undergraduate level in preparation for an advanced degree. AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS, R.H. THOMSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS, R.H. THOMSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship honors Seattle City Engineer (from 1882-1931) Reginald Thomson with a $5000 award to promising students who express an interest in the field of Civil Engineering.  Student must be a U.S. citizen and resident of and attending a school in the 9-county  Seattle Section of ASCE (San Juan, Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island, Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, or King) with a current standing of high school senior to university graduate student.  Application packets are available at the MV & OH SVC Financial Aid Offices, and must be submitted with a current resume, 3 letters of recommendation, and a short essay by the deadline date of  February 14, 2009. Awards will be announced by May 1, 2009.  

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF WOMEN ACCOUNTANTS SEATTLE CHAPTER

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF WOMEN ACCOUNTANTS SEATTLE CHAPTER Annual award of $1000-5000 to a part-time or full-time student pursuing either an associate’s of applied science, bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting at an accredited community college, college, university or professional school of accounting located in Washington State. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.05 overall and 3.00 in accounting, and must have also completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 credit hours within four weeks of the application deadline of May 15, 2009. AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY FOUNDATION

AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY FOUNDATION, INC. Several scholarships available to full-time students pursuing a four-year degree in welding engineering and welding engineering technology. ASSOC. IF WASH. COMMUNITY & TECHNICAL COLLEGE ADMINISTRATIVE & EXEMPT STAFF & "BUILDING OUR FUTURE" STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON COMMUNITY & TECHNICAL COLLEGE ADMINISTRATIVE & EXEMPT STAFF  Two scholarship programs: 1)for classified, professional or confidential exempt employees and 2)for graduating transfer-degree students. The staff scholarship is to be awarded to classified, professional or confidential exempt employees who are full-time and permanent, with at least five years experience in this classification in the Washington Community and Technical College System. They must have expressed an interest in community of technical college administration and receive full endorsement from their community or technical college president. If awarded, recipients must carry at least 5-qtr credits or 3-semester credits. The maximum award is $1,200. The application deadline is April 3, 2009.

The “Building Our Future” student scholarship is to be awarded to a student who will have completed his/her AA, AS or other transfer degree no later than summer 2009 and is attending or planning to attend a 4-year college or university beginning fall 2009. Eligibility requirements are included on the application form. Faculty recommendation is also required. The maximum award is $1,200. BECU FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

BECU FOUNDATION will award 25 merit-based $2500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate students who will attend college, technical college, or university in 2009/2010.  Applicants must be a member of BECU and have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Other selection criteria include community/school involvement, leadership and academic achievement. BIG SUN ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON

BUILDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON  WASHINGTON  Since 2001, BIAW's Education Committee volunteers and BIAW staff have awarded 200 scholarships totaling nearly $290,000.00 to assist and encourage workforce training in the construction industry. COLLEGE SUCCESS FOUNDATION

COLLEGE SUCCESS FOUNDATION LEADERSHIP 1000 SCHOLARSHIP Several scholarship awards of up to $5000 per year for four years to eligible students. THE EVERGREEN STATE COLLEGE offers several scholarship and grant opportunities to new students. BOB & ELEANOR GRANT TRUST Scholarship for first-generation college students studying natural or environmental sciences. The trust can provide up to $15,000 per year based on satisfactory student progress. Applicants must be: first-generation college students, planning to become a professional in natural or environmental sciences, in need of financial assistance to complete college, a resident of Washington State for at least 24 months prior to applying, entering the 2nd year of a program at a 2-year college or will have attained junior status at a 4-year college.  Required application materials include official college transcripts, a copy of your Student Aid Report, Letters of Recommendation, Resume, an Essay, etc. For full material list and an application, visit www.bandegranttrust.org . INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM   The IHS Scholarship Program, created by the authority of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, is designed to help the agency achieve the mission of raising the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. Scholarships are available to eligible American Indian and Alaskan Natives focused on the health care profession in a variety of fields. JANSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND

JANSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND Several scholarships in various amounts are available for undergraduate (post-high school) residents of Skagit County (established for at least one year immediately prior to commencement of the first day of the term being applied for) based on the criteria of Scholastic Ability, Good Moral Character, and Financial Need.  Applications will only be accepted from March 2nd through the deadline date of April 15th, 2009.  It is essential that students follow application procedures exactly to avoid disqualification. As this scholarship is administered by Emmanuel Baptist Church Board of Trustees, relatives of Emmanuel Baptist Church Trustees or Janson Committee Members are not eligible to receive scholarships. LUVERA SCHOLARSHIP FOR ANACORTES HIGH SCHOOL GRADS A current scholarship  available to graduates of Anacortes High School with a college level GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must be currently enrolled SVC students, and must use the Skagit Valley College Foundation Application available on this website, submitted with the required essay by 5pm on March 20, 2009 to the SVC Financial Aid Office.

MILOTTE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

MILOTTE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Alfred G. & Elma M. Milotte were known world-wide for their documentary work in natural history, environmental & wildlife studies, and the arts. Their scholarship trust fund annually awards one-year grants of up to $4000 to individuals who share their enthusiasm for exploring, chronicling and spreading the magnificence of the wilderness through artistic communication. The applicant should portray through photography (or other forms of artistic expression such as drawings or written work,) evidence of their interest in natural history, environmental studies or animal behavior. Eligible applicants must: be profoundly fascinated by nature & have been a careful observer of it and have successfully expressed your observations in an artistic way that engages the everyday person, be a high school graduate or GED holder, accepted at a trade school/art school/2 or 4-year college or university for either undergraduate or graduate studies, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, have been a resident of the

MOUNT BAKER NURSE'S ASSOCIATION

MOUNT BAKER NURSES ASSOCIATION provides up to $750 scholarships to students from Whatcom County, or those who have lived in Whatcom County for the past 12 months. She/he must be enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program or be a currently registered nurse striving for additional education in the field of nursing (including formal job retraining programs.) NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND

NORTHWEST HAWAI'I OHANA (NWHO) SCHOLARSHIP  One annual award of $500 to an eligible student. Top priority given to a member, or dependent of NWHO. OAK HARBOR ROTARY CLUB AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Ambassadorial Scholarship is for a study abroad program during the 2010-2011 academic year. The selected candidate(s) will be endorsed by the local club and recommended to Rotary District 5050 which makes the final selection. Candidates must have completed at least 2 years of college coursework at the time the scholarship period begins; candidates cannot be Rotarians or spouses, children, or grandchildren of Rotarians. The scholarship awarded will be $23,000 which can be used for tuition, room and board, and round-trip transportation. Candidates whose fields of study have a strong humanitarian impact are especially encouraged to apply; for example: medicine/healthcare, population development, urbane studies, environmental studies, food production/distribution. The Ambassadorial Scholarship was founded in 1947, and nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. While abroad, and after returning home, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their experiences to Rotary clubs and other groups. SEAMAR Community Health Center 2009 Farm Worker Scholarship

SEA MAR COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS 2009 FARM WORKER SCHOLARSHIP  Each year Sea Mar gives $1000 Farm Worker College Scholarships to low-income college students from Washington seasonal or migrant farm worker families, who are currently enrolled in a college or university, and who are planning to continue their education in the next academic year. Students who have previously received Sea Mar scholarships are not eligible. SEDRO-WOOLLEY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

SEDRO-WOOLLEY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is available to any graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School or State Street High School, regardless of their year of graduation enrolled in a one or two-year trade/vocational course. Students planning on transferring to a four-year college or university are not eligible and should not apply. SKAGIT COUNTY FARM BUREAU

SKAGIT COUNTY FARM BUREAU $1000 scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior or an already enrolled student in good academic standing at an accredited college or vocational program. Must be a voting member, or the son or daughter of a voting Skagit County Farm Bureau member. Copies of transcripts, letters of recommendation, an essay, and an application form are required. Applications are available at the Mount Vernon SVC Financial Aid Office. SKAGIT ROCK & GEM CLUB - LARRY NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

SKAGIT ROCK & GEM CLUB (LARRY NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP) – In order to qualify the student must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA, be currently enrolled in an accredited Earth Science: Geology or Park Ranger Program.  Ability, need, and intent to continue in the specified field of study will be strongly considered in applicant review.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.  Applications must be accompanied by an official transcript of grades and a letter of reference/recommendation prepared by a professor in the Geology/Physical Sciences Department or the Parks/Criminal Justice Department Head. This award will be disbursed to one student in the amount of $1000 for Spring quarter 2010.

 

SKAGIT WOMEN'S ALLIANCE & NETWORK (S.W.A.N.)

SKAGIT WOMEN’S ALLIANCE AND NETWORK (S.W.A.N.) SCHOLARSHIP Up to $1500 awarded annually in October to a woman who: A. Works or resides in Skagit County, B. Is established in a business or profession and practices this business according to ethical standards, C. Holds a bachelors or Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, D. Is pursuing and is currently enrolled in a program to enhance their business standing or competence (e.g. professional designation or post-graduate study.)  S.W.A.N. board members and their relatives are not eligible for this scholarship. Candidates must complete an application form, available at the Mount Vernon Campus Financial Aid Office, accompanied by two letters of recommendation and a copy of college transcripts postmarked by  May 15, 2009. Approximately $35,000 in scholarships available for Anacortes residents, and Anacortes High School seniors or graduates including:

1) Thelma Marani Health Services Scholarships, $2000 & $1500, to a man or woman entering a recognized health services program and not a previous awardee.

 2) Anacortes College Students, $2000 & $1500 awards, to two men and two women who will have at least junior status by September 2008. 

3) Susan Woolsey Memorial Spirit of Community Academic Scholarship is for $2000 per year for two years to an Anacortes woman student of 21 years of age or older who is dedicated to social improvement of her community as evidenced by work with children, families, physical or mental health.

4) Lottie McGovern Continuing Education Scholarship to a focused woman who is motivated to improve her skills and qualifications in her chosen field.

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL  - WOMEN’S OPPORTUNITY AWARD– To be eligible for the women’s Opportunity Award, you must: 1) Be a woman with primary financial responsibility for supporting your family.

The Mount Vernon Club will provide a $2,000 cash grant to its award recipient, who will then advance to the Soroptimist Regional level, where one recipient will $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards.

STANWOOD-CAMANO AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW) SCHOLARSHIP

STANWOOD-CAMANO AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW) SCHOLARSHIP  Two scholarships of $2500 each to eligible local students who have completed two years of college. Applicants must be residents of the Arlington/Stanwood/Camano Island area OR must be past graduates of Stanwood, Lincoln Hill, Lakewood, or Arlington High Schools. In addition, applicants must have completed at least 2 years of college or university by June 2009 and have verifiable plans to continue upper-division or graduate work at an accredited 4-year college or university in the fall of 2009. Applicants are asked to submit college transcripts, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a 300-word essay about their relationship to the AAUW mission of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. TAKE AIM SCHOLARSHIP

TAKE AIM SCHOLARSHIP is an initiative of NELA (NW Education Loan Association) and has $300,000 to award in 2009-2010 to assist students in the Pacific Northwest community and technical colleges, who have high potential and financial need, in completing their associate degrees, and also to support them in transferring to 4-year colleges and universities. VA MORTGAGE CENTER MILITARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Five bi-yearly (May & November) $1,500 scholarship awards to college students with current or potential military affiliation. WHITMAN COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES

WHITMAN COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES A $1000 scholarship to a worthy candidate who meets the following criteria: a graduate of a Whitman County Public High School who has successfully completed the freshman college year, a student in the field of Education and who is planning to become a teacher, a student who demonstrates financial need.  Application forms are available at the SVC Financial Aid Offices (Mt Vernon & Oak Harbor) and must be received by Whitman County Retired School Employees Association by the deadline of April 15, 2009.  

WILSON GIFT FUND SCHOLARSHIP

The Wilson Gift Fund Scholarship is intended to help disadvantaged adults gain marketable job skills through SVC’s Professional/Technical Associate Degree Programs. Three awards of up to $4000 are available for eligible students to use towards tuition, fees, and books only. Eligibility criteria include:

1. Age 25 or older

2. HS diploma or equivalent

3. Have held full-time employment for at least 3 of the past 4 consecutive years.

4. Demonstrate Financial Need determined by conventional SVC criteria (a completed FAFSA application.)

5. Current GPA of 2.5 or higher to apply, and maintained to continue funding throughout the academic year.

To apply students should complete the SVC Foundation Scholarship Application, located on the web at http://www.skagit.edu/file_upload/foundationscholarship_app.pdf, and submit the completed form to the MV SVC Financial Aid Office. Deadline for submission is October 29th.

WORKSOURCE Scholarships are available through WorkSource to students who meet the following criteria: a Running Start student currently in your senior year of high school, a student who will be working towards a Professional/Technical degree at SVC, a student who is low income.
