Student Government Position Requirements

Associated Students of Skagit Valley College – Whidbey Island Campus is your student government.  We are here to serve and represent the voice and interests of students at the Whidbey Island Campus.   We have a Treasurer and a Secretary and Student Representative positions to fill in this fall election.

We meet every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the student lounge and invite you to these meetings or talk with us in the student organization office room #2 on the first floor of Old Main across from the vending machines. 

QUALIFICATIONS to run for office as a STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE include:   1) you must be a current student at the Whidbey campus enrolled with ten credits, 2) in good standing, 3) have a 2.5 GPA minimum with a 3.0 preferred, 4) complete a prospective student government leader application and 5) gather 75 signatures of current SVC Whidbey Island students or 30 signatures for South Whidbey candidates indicating their support of your candidacy for office.   Those individuals who meet the qualifications will have their names put on the ballot for the Whidbey Campus election held the first week of October.

Representative positions pay a small stipend of $400 per quarter for the successful completion of duties.  These positions serve until graduation this spring.

As a Student Government Officer or Representative, you must

·       be able to attend the weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 12:30 - 2 p.m.,

·        complete a minimum of two office hours per week,

·       attend a once a month district ASSVC meeting first Tuesdays at 12:30,

·       serve on committees and

·       accomplish one major service project a quarter which meet the needs of our students.

·       The time commitment varies from 6 to 10 hours per week.
