AJ 105 Professional Development—Administration of Justice (2 credits) Protecting and serving our communities requires a commitment to quality leadership, ethics, conduct and professional values. This course focuses on leadership principles for making sound decisions and guiding the public safety workforce, with examination of critical issues found in the 21st century government workplace.

BMT 180—Leadership Development (3 credits) Practice skills in teamwork, problem-solving, motivation, project planning, conflict resolution, and valuing diversity as you take on leadership roles within an organization. Set goals and work to achieve organizational objectives both in person and as part of virtual work teams.

BRCG 60 Basic Conflict Resolution Skills (2 credits) Conflict and the resulting problems often impact every aspect of our lives. When issues are complex and feelings are intense, it is useful to have skills that will help resolve the conflicts we encounter. By participating in all four of these quick "brown bag" sessions, you can find ways to effectively resolve conflicts you encounter.

FIRE 271 Fire Company Leadership II (3 credits) Enhancing fire fighter skills through company leadership

PARLG 260 (2 credits) Develop leadership skills relevant to the paralegal profession by coordinating activities sponsored by the student paralegal association.

SOSC 132—Student Leadership Seminar (2 credits) This course explores important leadership topics, provides hands on training, and equips students to lead on and off campus. Specific sections of this course may be offered to groups of students such as multicultural students, Phi Theta Kappa members, and women.

Other SVC Leadership Courses may be substituted with prior approval.


Leadership Experience

Significant Involvement in a college-recognized organization

Each participant must hold a formal leadership position in a college-recognized organization or club for at least two quarters. This may be an officer position or leadership over a significant organization project or activity that requires a minimum of one quarter to plan and/or implement. A student must hold the same position for this period of time or must have advanced from one position to one of a higher level of responsibility. All leadership involvement will be verified by organization advisors and/or the Student Life Office.


Community Service

Practicing leadership through helping others

Participants will volunteer at least ten hours of their time to an organization or community group on or off campus. Service opportunities must be pre-approved.


Special Topics Seminars

Designed for all program participants

Each year, the Student Life Office hosts a series of seminars that address timely and important topics in leadership. Participants must attend at least three of these seminars before completing the program.
