The Cardinal Men's Soccer Program is now under the leadership of new Head Coach Tao Shen. Coach Shen brings a great deal of soccer knowledge, enthusiasm for the game, and the desire to build upon the years of history that are Cardinal Soccer.
Coach Shen was most recently the assistant coach at Whatcom CC for the last two years where he helped establish a dominant program in the NWAACC conference. He also assisted at Tacoma CC for one year. Tao is very excited to take on the unique and challenging opportunity to work with everyone to rebuild the Cardinal program into one that is accustomed to success and is respected among their NWAACC peers. As many of you already know, Skagit Valley College Men's Soccer Program holds the most NWAACC titles in history and we are proud of this achievement. You will be a part of something special and unique during this upcoming season in that we all share a common objective which is to build a program based on hardwork, mutual respect, and desire to win.
Coach Shen's philosophy in soccer is to create technical sound players who can use their skill to play a style that is fast-paced on offense and physical on defense. Players must understand the importance to work on their technical abilities and fitness before the season starts.He believes in an environment of true competition to maximize a player's potential. In addition, He requires his players to have a great attitude and passion for this beautiful game.
Lastly, this is an institution of higher learning which means that players will have to take their academics seriously and understand the importance of a college education. Players are required to attend weekly study sessions and expected to keep up with their studies. It's a tremendous privilege to be a student-athlete here at Skagit Valley CC which makes you responsible for not only your own success but the team's.

Former SVC soccer players include a current college president, professional soccer players, MLS team staff, and many other successful individuals. The Skagit Valley College Men's Soccer program has won an amazing 12 NWAACC Soccer titles and enjoys a great alumni base.
