Workshops & Events
- Costume Lab. Maura Marlin, SVC costumer, will teach students to tell the difference between natural and man-made fabrics by administering a "burn test" with appropriate safety precautions. Students will examine the behavior of yarn bundles and fabric characteristics when they are approaching, stationary in, and withdrawing from a flame. Hodson-50 (back stage); Session 1.
- Improvisation Workshop. Using techniques developed by Keith Johnstone, Ryan Stiles, and other theatre artists, playwright/actor/director Drue Robinson will take students to the far reaches of their imaginations by having them interact with one another in hilarious situations and bringing to life everything that is wacky and unspeakably fun. Hodson-24; Session 2.
- Junior/Senior Monologue Workshop. Andy Friedlander, SVC Theater Program Director, presents a session for students interested in working on audition monologues. Students may use this session to apply for a drama scholarship to Skagit Valley College. Hodson-24; Session 1.
- Physical Theatre and Mine. Professional actor/performer Michael Berg is offering a practical workshop on the basic skills of physical characterization and mime. Hodson-50; Session 2, 11a.m.-noon.
- The Acting Business. Patti Kalles, agent and casting director with the Kalles Agency, offers some practical tips about the commercial acting business. Hodson-50; Session 2, noon-1 p.m.
- Viewpoints Workshop. Playwright/actor/director Drue Robinson brings students a workshop straight from the NYC theatre scene. Viewpoints offers students an exciting and extremely dynamic movement theory which will transform how they rehearse, approach a script, create ensemble, and approach any aspect of theater. It's an energetic class which has students on their fee and interacting for two solid hours of high-powered fun! Wear yoga-type clothing and bring bottled water. Hodson-50; Session 1.
