Artist Talk: Thursday, November 17

An installation entitled "UNRAVEL" by Bainbridge Island based artist Kristin Tollefson will be on view at Skagit Valley College's Campus Center Gallery in the Gary Knutzen Cardinal Center from November 15 through January 11, 2011.  There will be an artist talk on November 17 at 12:30 -1:30 p.m. in Hodson Hall Room 211.  A reception will follow in the Campus Center Gallery.  The public is invited to attend.

Kristin Tollefson was born in California and raised on Bainbridge Island.  She received her MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BA, in Anthropology/Sociology and Art History from Carleton College. She has received numerous grants and awards from organizations including the Fulbright Program, The American-Scandinavian Foundation, Artist Trust, and Jack Straw. Her public art can be seen throughout Puget Sound, including at the Montlake Community Center and Magnolia Library in Seattle, the City of Kent and City of Shoreline.

In her work, Tollefson explores the complexities between tension and balance that occur among natural and human worlds through various forms of media. Trained as a metalsmith, Tollefson says the following about her art "Distinctly modern in appearance and fabricated using traditional and hand-wrought techniques, my artwork invokes a balance of decorative lightness and detailed construction out of found, reclaimed or surplus materials."

Skagit Valley College Art Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary work by regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists. The Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the college's academic year.
