Compensation

The ASSVC District President is compensated at a quarterly amount equal to the cost of 10 credits ($861.00) of tuition and fees. All other elected positions are compensated at the amount equal to 7 credits ($609.70)

Position Descriptions

Mount Vernon Campus (MVC) Vice President

Responsibilities include

1.      Assist the ASSVC president with the responsibilities of that office.

2.      In the temporary absence of the president, assume the duties and powers of that office when elected by the District Legislature only until the ASSVC student body elects a new president.

3.      Chair weekly Mount Vernon Campus Legislative board meetings.

4.      Attend monthly meetings of the ASSVC District Legislature as a non-voting member.  Legislative vice presidents may exercise the right to make privileged and secondary motions.

5.      Attend monthly Executive board meetings.

6.      Present monthly reports on their campus board’s proceedings to the ASSVC District Legislature and Executive board.

7.      Present monthly reports on the program board’s proceedings to the ASSVC District Legislature and Executive board.

8.      Research and report to the president on such topics as may be required by the president.

9.      Oversee the attendance and performance of members participating in all college and standing committee meetings of their individual boards and committees.

10.  Require that representatives develop ongoing liaison with clubs and other subsidized programs in order to provide quarterly reports by the president of each club at board meetings.

11.  Serve on the S&A Budget Committee/Senate.

12.  Perform all other duties required by the office.

 

Mount Vernon Campus (MVC) Secretary Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Prepare the agenda for all meetings of the MVC legislative board.

2.      Keep official minutes of the SVC-MVC legislative board meetings.

3.      Serve on at least two committees of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

4.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

5.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

 

Mount Vernon Campus (MVC) Treasurer Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Administer the designated MVC legislative board budgets.

2.      Submit a budget statement to MVC legislative board members at every meeting.

3.      Serve on at least two committees of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

4.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

5.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

 

Club Relations and Communications Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Ensure that the legislative board has regular and healthy communications with campus clubs

2.      Assist the campus treasurer in processing club funding requests and communicating with club representatives

3.      Work directly with all club leaders and anyone else who makes financial requests of the MVC legislative board

4.      Serve on the student government Communications Committee.

5.      Serve and actively participate on the ASSVC Constitution Review  Committee to assist clubs in the chartering process

6.      Serve and actively participate on the student government Communications Committee.

7.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

8.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

9.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Community Service Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Develop service opportunities and events for students including the student government both on and off campus

2.      Interface with Learning Into Action and Cooperative Education program administrators to effectively maximize the hands on educational experiences of students

3.      Serve on at least one additional committee of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

4.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

5.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

6.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Instructional Issues Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Hold an active position on the college’s standing Instruction Committee representing student concerns to the college and informing students of instructional policy developments.

2.      Serve on at least one additional committee of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

3.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

4.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

5.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Student services issues representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Hold an active position on the college’s standing Student Services Committee representing student concerns to the college and informing students of student services policy developments.

2.      Serve on at least one additional committees of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

3.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

4.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

5.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Technology and Distance Education Outreach Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Develop strategies to include distance education students in decision-making and better serve them with student services and other government functions

2.      Serve on the college’s standing Technology Fee and Information Technology Advisory Committees representing student needs and concerns and reporting campus technology issues back to student leaders.

3.      Be responsible to innovate and automate in student government and program board operations and resolve technology issues.

4.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

5.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

6.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Transportation, Safety, and Parking Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Improve student access to campus including carpooling and public transportation.

2.      Attend the campus’s standing safety committee with faculty and staff. 

3.      Work with campus security personnel, college administrators, and students on parking policy and implementation issues. 

4.      Serve on at least one additional committee of either the College or the ASSVC Legislative boards.

5.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

6.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

7.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Sustainability and Environmental Awareness Representative

Responsibilities include

1.      Improve student awareness and access to sustainable practices in education.

2.      Attend the campus’s standing safety and sustainability committee with faculty and staff. 

3.      Work with campus security personnel, college administrators, and students on “green” policy and implementation issues. 

4.      Volunteer on at least one district public service clean up or other public service event.

5.      Establish and maintain office hours totaling at least two (2) hours per week.  These hours will be posted.

6.      Maximum possible participation will be required at all functions sponsored by the program board and SVC clubs and organizations.

7.      Perform all other duties as required by the office.

 

Representative at Large

Responsibilities for these positions will be determined by the campus leadership based on current needs after filling all of the other positions.

Qualifications

1.      Enrollment  Current SVC student in good disciplinary standing and enrolled

 in at least 10 credits during the time you would serve in office.

2.      GPA To run for and hold office, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

3.      Completed signature sheet of support from 75 fellow SVC students

4.      Essay  Please submit a typed essay via e-mail that addresses the following questions:

a.      Qualifications: What experience have you had that will help you in this

              position?

b.     What would you like to accomplish?

c.      How would you go about accomplishing this goal?

d.     How will you manage to dedicate the time necessary to serve in this position?

5.      A digital photograph of yourself (e-mail submission ) 

6.      Choose a position: Students must run for a specific position.

7.      Meeting times: Candidates must be able to attend weekly meetings which take place each

Tuesday from 12:30 – 1:35 PM and participate in all activities/committee assignments listed in position descriptions. 

8.      Speak at a public forum: All candidates are required to speak at a public forum in the cafeteria 

on October 13th at 12:30.
