Maureen Rowland

Mauren Rowland, a native of the Pacific Northwest, graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1992. During her high school years she competed in Cross Country, Track, Basketball, and Swimming; making state appearances in every sport. After graduating from high school Maureen continued to compete in Cross Country and Basketball while receiving her BA in Movement and Exercise Science from Chapman University. She continued to excel at a high level, and moved on to more competetive activities following college. In addition she received a certification in Athletic Training and began working as a personal trainer following college.
Coach Rowland now competes regularly in marathons, often finishing in the top ten among women. Most recently she finished 3rd in the Whidbey Island Marathon, and 4th in the Port Angeles Marathon. She has also compted in numerous other races over the last 10 years. She brings her competive mindset to the Cross Country Team at Skagit Valley College and focuses on building solid/balanced athletes who understand committment, respect, and honesty. Maureen says, " Competing in college athletics is a once in a lifetime opportunity and not everyone gets to experience it. Cross Country gives runners (with a lot of experience, or little at all) a chance to build character and take part in a sport that always gives back and teaches you a lesson about how strong your mind and body are." Maureen has a true passion for running and coaching young athletes.
Outside of coaching, Maureen is happily married to Chuck Rowland and busy raising two young boys who keep them busy with sporting pursuits of there own in sports such as soccer and swimming.
