Cardinal Volleyball Will See A Coaching Change

the Cardinal Volleyball program will see a change in leadership after Head Coach Kelsey Savage-Swapp and Assistant Coach Lianna Neyens have both stepped down to spend more time with their young families. The Cardinal Athletic Department would like to thank them for their years of service and commitment to the program and look forward to their continued involvement and supporters of Cardinal Volleyball and the Athletic Department.

An announcent regarding the new coaching staff will be made as soon as information is available.

Kelsey Savage-Swapp is entering her 7th year as the head coach for the Skagit Valley Cardinals. Kelsey also coached for the Skagit Valley Volleyball Club in 2004 and the Stanwood Volleyball Club in 2005 & 2006. Kelsey played volleyball and basketball at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. She continued to play both sports at Skagit Valley College where she was named Female Athlete of the Year in 2000. She then went on to Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR where she continued to play volleyball. She received her B.A. in Education (2002) as well as her Masters degree from Pacific University in 2003.

Kelsey was named Norhtern Region Coach of the Year in 2006 after the team finished 11-1 in league play and won the North Region Title.

Kelsey lives in Anacortes, WA with her husband Pat, son Ty and daugher Tatum. She also teaches at Washington Elementary in Mount Vernon, WA.

Lianna Neyens

Lianna Neyens is entering her 6th year as the assistant coach for the Skagit Valley Cardinals. Lianna is a 1997 Marysville Pilchuck High School graduate, where she played volleyball, was team captain and named First Team All League. She then played volleyball for two years at Skagit Valley College earning team MVP, First Team All Conference and represented Skagit on the 1998 Sophomore All Star team. Lianna then earned a scholarship to play volleyball and compete in track for Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, OR. She was selected to First Team All Conference for volleyball and was the conference javelin champion in track. She received her B.S. in Business with a marketing emphasis in 2002. Lianna has also played and coached club volleyball. She played for Rain City Volleyball Club (1994-1997) and coached for Skagit Volleyball Club in 2003-2005 and La Conner Volleyball Club in 2006.

Lianna lives in Mount Vernon, WA with her husband Steve, son Xavier, and daughter Harper. She is also an advertising representative for MacGregor Publishing.
