New Volleyball Head Coach
Zach Calles
zachary.calles@skagit.edu
Born in Hawaii and into a volleyball family, he began his competitive career after joining the Navy. His naval career provided him the opportunity to compete around the world in countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Israel, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, and Jordan.
Zach's coaching career started as an Assistant Coach for the Travis Air Force Men's team which competed against some of the top teams in Northern California. After moving to San Diego, he accepted the Head Coach position for the 32nd Street men's team where he guided them to two Southwestern Regional Finals. Coach Calles then made the transition to coaching juniors when he moved to Virginia Beach, VA as the Head Coach for Tidewater Volleyball Boys 18 team. He coached this team to three regional championships and top 20 showings at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championship.
In 2006, Zach moved to Anacortes and opened the Skagit Island Volleyball Academy which has become a respected program within the Puget Sound Region. Along with running a top tier volleyball program, Coach Calles has been involved with the USA Volleyball Puget Sound Region as a High Performance Coach, IMPACT Coaching Clinician, and a Regional referee.
He has been married for 20 years to Anacortes native, Melanie Calles (Linden) and has three children aged 19, 15, and 10.
We welcome Zach and look forward to the competetive volleyball program that he will develop at Skagit Valley College.
