Softball Coaching Staff

Coach Dani Baird is in her first year as the Head Softball Coach at Skagit Valley Community College.  Dani comes to Skagit after serving as an assistant coach the previous two years at Bellevue Community College. As a graduate of a major NCAA Division 1 softball program, Dani brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to Skagit. During her time at Bellevue, Coach Baird helped guide BCC to a 42-6 record in 2008 and a 38-12 record in 2007; both which were record-setting years. Additionally, Baird coached three players who went on to be named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NWAACC All-American team.

Prior to coaching at Skagit Coach Dani played on the University of Oregon softball team from 2003-2006. As a participant Coach Baird played in one of the nations toughest conferences, the Pac-10, and played with and against the best players in the country. Dani helped her team earn a berth to the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2005.  During her time at U.O., Danielle was named 1st Team Pac-10 All-Academic in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete all three years elligible.  In 2006, Danielle was voted to the Pac-10 Honorable Mention Team. Additionally, as an Oregon Athlete Baird was awarded numerous Oregon Elite and Oregon Iron Club awards for her performance and abilities in regards to weight lifting and speed & agility. During her time there Coach Baird also participated as a camp counselor and clinician..

Prior to college, Coach Baird played for Eve Gaw and the Washington LadyHawks, one of the premier summer ball teams in the nation.  A native of Washington, Dani grew up here in Skagit Valley and played high school softball at Sedro-Woolley High School where she helped guide her team to 3 league titles and a 3rd place finish at the state tournament her senior year; earning all-conference honors all four seasons. Baird, along with fellow Sedro-Woolley teammate and former coaching colleague at
Bellevue, Sarah Hyatt, were inducted into the inaugural SWHS Fastpitch Hall of Fame.

Coach Baird received her bachelor's degree in Political Science at the
University of Oregon. Along with her degree she was honored as a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha and Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Societies for her academic excellence as both a student-athlete and as a scholar in the Political Science department.

Along with her responsibilities at Skagit C.C., Coach Baird works here locally as a licensed real estate agent and is also a certified personal trainer. She lives in Big Lake.

Assistant Softball Coach

Coach Suzy Schweikert is in her first season as the assistant softball coach at Skagit Valley Community College. Her primary duties and responsibilities will be to coach the outfielders and hitting along with assisting in all other aspects of the game. Coach Schweikert brings a strong enthusiasm and love for the game that will be of tremendous benefit to the success of the SVC softball program. Coaching has been a central focus and passion throughout Suzy's life. Coach Schweikert believes that coaching has taught her a tremendous amount about people and about life.

 

Prior to coaching at Skagit Suzy has had the opportunity to coach softball, baseball, soccer, tackle football, wrestling and swimming. In addition, she also works to train athletes during the off-season training in their respective sports.

 

Outside of softball and her duties as the assistant softball coach Suzy is also the Mount Vernon High School Varsity Football kicking coach; coaching alongside her husband Jaxon who is the head football coach. In the off-season Suzy also spends her time referring soccer and umpiring softball.

 

Coach Schweikert and her husband Jaxon have four beautiful, athletic, and aggressive children named Ike, Kj, Hannah and Cody. Their favorite family pastimes are hockey, rollerblading and skateboarding. Coach Schweikert states that her current claim to fame is that she is being the "Ping Pong Dynamo."
