Doris Dunn, Instructor
Doris began at Skagit Valley College as a CIS student in 1994, subsequently was hired as an Information Technology technician before realizing her true calling – teaching information technology. Doris is passionate about assisting students to realize their potential, to define their strengths and discover their area of expertise. This can be accomplished while implementing current technology and ensuring competency in basic technology skills.
Doris is currently involved in fostering global relationships to implement online delivery systems that can be partnered with universities in around the world, beginning with our contacts in Chile.
Don Fotheringham, Instructor
Don began his career in education in 1979 teaching high school in Canada. From there he moved to the United States and the private sector where he worked in corporate technology training, teaching application software, database design and programming.
He returned to education at Skagit Valley College in the fall of 2000. As the CIS program moved toward an online delivery, Don developed many tutorials and videos as supplemental materials for his courses. While online learning is not without its disadvantages and not suited for all candidates, he believes the opportunities and flexibility it affords greatly outweigh those drawbacks and, as technology improves, will be an increasingly attractive choice for many students.
Mike Ripingill, WIC Computer Lab Manager
Mike is originally from Florida. He graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee and Florida State University. At FSU, he got his first experience with computers, taking classes in COBOL, FORTRAN, and BASIC. When he moved to Whidbey Island in the early 90's, his interest in computers was reawakened when he enrolled in Skagit Valley College's CIS program. One course led to another until he had finally earned all three CIS certificates offered by the college at the time. He now shares his interest in computers and networking with upcoming students by working at the Whidbey Island Campus as Computer Lab Manager, and Teaching Assistant to the department chair.
Mike is a Seahawks fan, and hopes he never has to see a game between the Huskies and the Seminoles. The divided loyalty would be too much to endure. He enjoys cooking both Chinese and Mexican cuisine, and riding his motorcycle.
