Blackboard IE8 Information

Internet Explorer 8 and Compatibility View

Some web pages do not display correctly in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).

In Blackboard, when you go to take a test, the Elapsed Timer may display like in the image below, effectively taking away your ability to submit your test answers! Instructions are included following the below image on how to correct this issue.

Using Compatibility View To Correct Elapsed Timer Issue

Compatibility View allows IE8 to display web pages as if it were the previous version, thus correcting those errors. It is recommended that Blackboard be viewed using compatibility view to avoid problems when taking tests or viewing information.  IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PUT YOUR BROWSER IN COMPATIBILITY VIEW BEFORE YOU LOGIN.  (When you put your browser into Compatibility View it refreshes the browser so you could possibly lose work if you do it later.)

There are two ways to put IE8 in Compatibility View:

Option 1. To put a site into Compatibility View all you have to do is click the "Compatibility View" button located to the right of the address bar. You should only have to do this the first time you access a site in IE8 as the browser will remember your settings.  If you do not see this button, follow option #2 below.

Option 2. If you don't have the compatibility view button as shown above, follow these instructions instead:
A. Click "Tools" on the main IE8 menu
B. On the Tools menu, click "Compatibility View Settings"
C. On the Compatibility View Settings tab, type blackboard.com into the "Add this website:" text box, and then click the "Add" button
D. You should now see blackboard.com included in the "Websites you've added to Compatibility View:" list.  A screenshot of this is included below.
E. Click the "Close" button
