Cardinal Career Scholars

Cardinal Career Scholars is a federal, non-residential, program that provides job skills instruction, educational opportunities, and individualized employment services for new Skagit Valley College students who qualify and wish to earn a certificate. In addition, the Cardinal Career Scholars provides funds for tuition, books, transportation, and more! The Cardinal Career Scholars program supports the following certificate programs:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Be between ages 16-24 years old
  • Reside in Skagit, Whatcom, island, Snohomish or San Juan counties
  • Is receiving or eligible to receive public assistance or; eligible for free/reduced lunch or; is experiencing homelessness or; other financial/educational barriers
  • Pursue a certificate in one of SVC’s high-demand, high-wage programs

Application Submission Method

To Get Started at SVC:

1. Apply for Admissions

Submit an Admission Application online at the Washington State Community & Technical College Web Admissions Center (Be sure to select Skagit Valley College after creating an account). Please note that applications will take up to 10 business days to process.

2. Apply for Financial Aid

During remote operations, Financial Aid Staff are available by phone appointment to assist with your application. Please call 360.416.7666 or uChat to request assistance.

3. Take the Math and English Placement Test

To determine your timeline here at SVC, your writing, reading, and mathematics skills will be assessed. There may be more than one way you can be placed into courses; review your options below.

4. Sign up for Cardinal Take-Off and Register for Classes

Once you have determined your course placement, new students register for a Cardinal Take-Off New Student Group Advising session. Here you will learn more about Skagit Valley College and register for your classes within the session.
