Graduate Information

Regalia Info: Cap & Gown
  • Graduates must wear appropriate regalia in order to participate in commencement ceremonies.
  • Caps and Gowns will be available for purchase at the Cardinal Bookstore starting May 30, 2019 during Commencement Kick Off through June 20, 2019.
  • The Grad Package costs $44.99 and includes your cap, gown tassel and diploma cover.
  • If you participate in an SVC club/organization, such as Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) check in with the advisor to see if you have club specific regalia to order.
  • For those eligible to receive an honor cord to wear at commencement, you will be able to pick this up during check-in, the day of your ceremony. Honors eligibility is determined from your cumulative GPA at the end of Winter Quarter.
Ceremony Check-In
  • Check in for commencement will start at 4:30pm.
  • During check in you will receive your name card and any honor cords as applicable.
  • Only your highest degree will be listed and read for commencement.
  • We strongly encourage visiting the phonetics table to have your name spelled out phonetically, making it easier for the readers to pronounce as you walk across the stage!
Ceremony Guidelines
  • Graduates will not be allowed to enter the Pavilion prior to commencement. Please make arrangements with your guests and your belongings.
  • Graduates will line up near Lewis Hall in two separate rows. Your seating within the ceremony will be arranged based on how you line up – line up with your friends!
Visitor Information
  • Tickets are not required, however due to limited seating, overflow seating with video viewing will be available in McIntyre Hall, the Philip Tarro Theatre and Angst Hall.
  • Seating is reserved for Faculty, Graduates and the Platform Party. All others may take their seats on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • There is additional viewing in Angst Hall, which has been designated a Family Friendly Viewing Room. We welcome children at the ceremony, and ask for their safety and the consideration of other graduates and their guests, be sure they are in the care of an adult, and remain seated in the audience.
  • Balloons and strollers are not allowed into the Pavilion during the ceremony.
  • Guests who have a disability or difficulty walking will find easier access if they enter the Pavilion through the north entrance. Limited seating on the Pavilion floor is available. We ask those who utilize this area to limit the number of family and friends that sit with them to one individual. Please contact (360) 416-7979 prior to ceremony for information regarding disability access. Ask a Commencement Usher for assistance.
  • Directly following Commencement join us for a reception to celebrate our graduates. The reception will be held outside in the Gary Tollefson Plaza or Knutzen Center Cafeteria depending on weather (Map). An announcement about the location decision will be made during the ceremony.
Parking
  • Parking is first-come, first-served, with the exception of reserved staff parking.
  • Parking for guests is available on the east side of Mount Vernon Campus in student parking (Map).
Livestream

Can’t make it to Commencement or is the Pavilion Full? Good news! The ceremony will be recorded and streamed live over the internet for friends and family members who are unable to attend the ceremony in person.

  • A test stream will be made available on the Skagit Valley College website, skagit.edu one week in advance. Please ensure that friends and family can connect to the test stream before the day of the ceremony.
  • The official live stream will be made available on skagit.edu on the day of the ceremony.

  • Graduates will not be allowed to enter the Oak Harbor High School Gym prior to commencement. Please make arrangements with your guests and your belongings.
  • Graduates will line up near the Field House in two separate rows. Line up immediately behind the person you want to sit by during the ceremony.
Visitor Information
  • Tickets not required and there is no limit to the number of people you can invite to attend.
  • Seating is reserved for Faculty, Graduates and the Platform Party. All others may take their seats on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • We welcome children at the ceremony, and ask for their safety and the consideration of other graduates and their guests, be sure they are in the care of an adult, and remain seated in the audience.
  • If one of your guests needs special seating or assistance because of a disability or physical restriction, please email [email protected]or call 360.679.5351 no later than Friday, June 7, 2019. Ask an usher for assistance upon arrival to the gymnasium.
