Cardinal STEM Scholars Program

The Cardinal STEM Scholars Program (CSSP) provides scholarships and support to qualified students with financial need at Skagit Valley College who are pursuing transfer degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Scholarship awards, up to $10,000 per year, and a STEM fellowship experience are key components of the Cardinal STEM Scholars Program. The Cardinal STEM Scholars Program is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, S-STEM proposal 1833851.

 CSSP Application Information

Who can Apply?
  • Graduating High School Seniors and current SVC students are encouraged to apply to the CSSP Program.
  • Only U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens are eligible for the CSSP Program.
What are the Application Requirements?
  • Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Visit the Skagit Valley College Financial Aid webpage for the FASFA application and other financial aid resources.
  • Unofficial High School and/or College transcripts.
  • A written response describing the applicant’s interest and career goals within the STEM field and how the scholarship would offset financial burdens and enhance academic success are components of the online CSSP Application.
What are the Requirements of the Cardinal STEM Scholars Program?
  • Enrollment in 10 credits or more each quarter at Skagit Valley College.
  • Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 while participating in the CSSP Program.
FAQs

I am a Running Start student. Can I apply to the CSSP program? Regrettably, no. Only students who have completed high school are eligible.

I am currently in the pre-nursing program. Can I apply? Regrettably, no. Students pursuing nursing and other allied health degrees are ineligible.

What Skagit Valley College degrees and programs are supported by the Cardinal STEM Scholars Program? Associate in Science Transfer Track 1, Associate in Science Transfer track 2, Biology MRP, Computer Science MRP degrees. Students interested in Biology, Chemistry Physics, Engineering, Earth and Environmental Science, Computer Science, and Math transfer degrees are eligible as are Environmental Conservation students with intent to transfer for a 4-year degree.

Eleven SVC students were awarded Cardinal STEM Scholarships, with an average award amount of $4800.00 for the academic year 2019-2020.
