Updating Student Information
Student information such as address or phone number can be updated on MySVC or with a Student Information Update Form.
Preferred name
Skagit Valley College (SVC) is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment for all students. In recognition of the diverse experiences and perspectives of its student body, SVC honors preferred names in a variety of circumstances.
What Is A Preferred Name?
A preferred name is a first name that differs from an official/legal name. SVC acknowledges that the reason for choosing a preferred name can be personal and does not make it a requirement for all students. This option can be beneficial for students known by names that are different from their legal names, students with transgender or gender non-confirming identities, international or other students who wish to adopt an English language name, etc.
Students who choose to do so can designate a preferred name to be used by the college community, including college rosters and interactions with faculty and staff. Students can opt to use a preferred name; it is not required.
*Please note that preferred names only apply to first names. Last names can only be changed with a legal name change. Additional documentation must be provided.
Changing Your Preferred Name
Students can add/update their preferred name by logging in to MySVC or by visiting the Enrollment Services office at both campuses to complete a Student Information Update Form. Submissions are processed within 3 to 5 business days at the discretion of Enrollment Services.
Preferred names cannot contain inappropriate language, hate speech or be used for impersonation purposes. All students must follow the Code of Student Conduct. Any preferred name that Enrollment Services staff determines is in violation of this agreement is subject to disciplinary action by Student Life. SVC will continue using a student’s legal name on official documentation, including college transcripts, diplomas, financial aid records, student employment records and international documentation.
SVC provides a drug free environment and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or age in its programs and employment.
