Areas of Study - Icon -Industrial Tech and Transportation MULTI-OCCUPATIONAL TRADES

Skagit Valley College is affiliated with three apprenticeship programs, the Northwest Carpenter’s Institute of Washington, the Northwest Washington Electrical Industry JATC, and Dakota Creek Industries. The Multi-Occupational Trades degree offers a combination of on-the-job experience provided by a registered apprenticeship training program and related general education courses. The program is intended for students already enrolled in an apprenticeship program approved by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Council (JATC). Students enrolled in apprenticeship courses who are interested in this degree should contact their apprenticeship coordinator for more information.  Please click on the tab you are interested in to learn more! 

Specialized Program Information

Completion of (or concurrent enrollment in) a registered apprenticeship program that includes a minimum of 6,000 clock hours of on-the-job training (OJT) and a minimum of 450 clock hours of related supplemental instruction (RSI) certified by a Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (JATC). In addition to the completion of OJT and RSI clock hours, students must complete 17 credits of general education coursework to earn the applied science degree.

Although these apprenticeship programs are affiliated with Skagit Valley College, each program has its own coordinator and selection procedures. Generally, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Washington state driver’s license, and go through a selection process which might include a written test, physical test, drug test, and/or interview.

FAQ

No, you will not automatically earn an AAS by applying through the OAAP.

You will need to apply through the OAAP. However, the steps to apply are slightly different. After you’ve created your account, you will need to select the following fields to apply for the AAS:  

-College: Skagit Valley College 

-I will be enrolling as a...First Year 

-Program: Professional Technical 

Term: Choose most current term available 

Degree or Certificate I am seeking...Multi-Occupational Trades AAS 

Academic Focus Area: Choose 1 of the following depending on your apprenticeship: 

  • Carpenter CARCAAPR 
  • Inside Wireman ELEIWAPR 
  • LE Sound&Comm COLSCAPR 
  • Marine Electrician Appr DCII E 
  • Rsdntl Wireman ELERWAPR 
  • Ship/Fab Appr DCII MEFSFAPR

Learn more about the Multi-Occupational Trades, AAS. Completing the AAS requires several additional courses including: 

CSS 103 - First Quarter Experience 

  • or an equivalent CSS course. 

CMST& 210:E - Interpersonal Communication 

ENGL& 101 - English Composition I 

MATH& 107 - Math in Society 

  • or any college level math.
