Running Start Costs

Tuition and Fees

Running Start funding pays for eligible tuition up to 21 credits per quarter. The number of credits that students can take per quarter is determined by the high school and is calculated based on high school enrollment. College classes that are below 100 level are not eligible for Running Start funding.

Running Start students are required to pay the same mandatory fees as other college students. Fees are calculated based on the number of college credits you’re taking (and you can find a table of these fees at /business-services/college-fees/). Depending on the courses you choose to take, there may be additional, course-specific fees and/or lab fees.

*Please note, Running Start students are not able to register for classes before they submit their Running Start Enrollment Verification Form to SVC due to a hold on their account. Students unable to obtain the form from high schools during school closures can register for classes with permission from the Director of Dual Credit, and they need to submit the completed form as soon as possible once school resumes. The student will be responsible for tuition and fees if they fail to submit the completed Running Start Enrollment Verification Form or if they are enrolled in more credits than the completed form allows.

Fee Waiver

Students who qualify for free or reduced-priced meals through their school district, based on the Family Income Survey, are eligible to have their fees waived for up to 21 credits per quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to provide SVC with documentation from their high school or district, which shows their eligibility. High school or district staff may also indicate eligibility on the Running Start Enrollment Verification Form.

Other Costs of Attendance

Textbooks

All college students are responsible for obtaining their own textbooks and supplies. You can find the required and recommended textbooks and supplies at The Cardinal Bookstore, approximately one month before the quarter starts. Here are a few ways you may acquire your textbooks:

Purchase: Textbooks may be purchased from the Cardinal Bookstore or another retailer.

Rent: Textbooks may be rented from the Cardinal Bookstore or another retailer. Shipping takes time so please order your books at least 2 weeks before the quarter starts.

Borrow: The SVC Library has many textbooks on reserve for use in the library.

Transportation and Meals

SVC offers a free Skagit bus pass for all students, and there is a free food pantry for all students on each of our campuses. Other than these resources, students are responsible for the cost of transportation and meals.
