Federal and State Policies Related to Accessibility of Online Information
In April of 2024, the Department of Justice ruled that all institutions of higher
education need to make online and mobile information meet accessibility rules under
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA. The deadline for compliance is April 2026.
In addition, Washington State Technology Policy USER-01, outlines requirements for state agencies to develop plans for accessibility and
to comply with the WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
