CTE Dual Credit Frequently Asked Questions

No. It is completely free. However, ordering an official transcript costs $6. We recommend waiting until after your senior year of high school is complete to order a transcript. This allows for all dual credit classes to be transcribed and therefore show up on your SVC transcript before you pay for the transcript.

Yes. You must get a “B” or above to receive credit at the college. If you get less than a “B”, you will still receive credit at your high school but cannot receive credit at the college. If you aren’t sure your grade is high enough, look up your grade in your high school's grading system or reach out to your teacher to see if  you can increase your grade.

If you have below a "B" and have enrolled in the class, SVC will drop you from the class so you will not receive credit. This is different than College in the High School. If you have questions about this reach out to cte@skagit.edu for help!

No. College in the High School (CiHS) is a different dual credit program. However, it is similar to CTE Dual Credit in many ways. For example:

  • High school students in both programs take classes at their home high school.
  • High school students in both programs use the OAAP to apply and enroll in dual credit classes.
  • Student credits are transcribed at the end of the quarter they finish the class.
  • Credits from either program are the start a student's SVC transcript.
  • Credits from either program can be submitted to other high education institutions to see if they qualify for transfer credit.

The primary difference is grades. In CiHS, the grade you earn from your high school teacher is the grade that goes on your SVC transcript, regardless of what grade you earn. In CTE Dual Credit, students must receive a B or above to have their class transcribed to their SVC transcript.

No. Running Start students take classes on Skagit Valley College’s campus with SVC faculty. CTE Dual Credit students take classes at their home high school with their high school teacher.

All transcripts will be created by July 1st of the previous academic year.

For an unofficial transcript, login to your ctclink account on or after July 1st to view your unofficial transcript.

For an official transcript, order it using Parchment. This costs $6.

If you encounter a problem and don't see your credits appearing as you would expect, email dualcredit@skagit.edu

It depends. Each institution that you want to transfer to will evaluate your transcript to see if the classes can receive transfer credit. Some classes may receive credit, some classes may receive elective credit, and some you may receive no credit for depending on the institution.

If you are transferring to a different Washington State Community or Technical College and you have taken a class with an "&" at the end of the class code (for example: ENGR& 114 or ECED& 132), these classes will transfer.

In high school, CTE Dual Credit will affect your GPA like any other high school class. At Skagit Valley College, the same grade that you receive from your high school teacher will appear on your college transcript. This is the start of your college transcript and will be calculated into your cumulative GPA at SVC.

If you are interested in one or more programs at SVC, CTE Dual Credit can help you complete the program faster, lowering the cost of attendance at Skagit Valley College and allowing you to complete a program more quickly.

For example, if you are doing our AAS in Pastry & Baking, and have taken CUL 123 (3 credits) and CUL 199 (1 credits), you will have already completed 4 credits of this degree and will not have to take those 4 credits to complete this degree. You also would not have to pay for those 4 credits, lowering your cost of tuition.

No. If your grade is a B or above, it is up to you whether or not you receive dual credit for the class you take. If for example, you have a “B” in your high school class and are looking to have a higher GPA on your college transcript, you might opt not to receive dual credit as this would lower your cumulative GPA.

If you do not want to receive dual credit, you will not apply to SVC or enroll in your high school class in ctclink.
