New Student Enrollment Steps
Planning to earn a degree or certificate at Skagit Valley College? Use this guide to explore each step of the enrollment process in more detail. Whether you’re applying, setting up your account, or preparing to register, this page expands on each step of the enrollment process, offering additional details and support to help you successfully complete your next steps.

Apply to SVC
Submit your application through the Online Admissions Application Portal (OAAP) at least 2–3 weeks before the quarter begins to allow time for all requirements, including establishing funding.
Why this matters:
Applying creates your student record and allows us to send you important next steps.
What happens next:
- You’ll receive a ctcLink ID
- You’ll get a Welcome Letter by email once your application is processed
Timing:
Apply as early as possible to allow time for the next steps.

Check Your Email for Your Welcome Letter
After applying, check your email for your Welcome Letter from SVC.
Why this matters:
This email confirms your admission and includes your ctcLink ID and next steps.
What to look for:
- Your ctcLink ID number
- Instructions for setting up your account
- Information about registration
Tip:
Check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see the email.

Complete Course Placement
Complete placement to determine which classes you’re ready to take.
Why this matters:
Placement ensures you enroll in the right courses based on your academic background.
You may qualify through:
- High school or college transcripts
- Test scores or placement tests
- ESL / CASAS placement (for English language learners)
- International student placement options
Next step:
After placement, you’ll be ready to plan your schedule.

Set Up Your ctcLink Account
This step is completed when you attend the New Student Registration.
Set up your ctcLink account to access your student portal and manage your enrollment.
Why this matters:
You’ll use ctcLink to register for classes, view your financial aid, and access important
student services.
What you’ll need:
- Your ctcLink ID (sent in your Welcome Letter)
- Access to your email

Once your account is set up, you’ll be ready to register for New Student Registration.

Attend New Student Registration
Register for and attend a New Student Registration session.
Why this matters:
This session prepares you to successfully start classes and connect with campus resources.
During registration, you will:
- Set Up Your ctcLink Account
- Register for classes
- Explore funding options and resources
- Connect with student support services
- Set up your MySVC email
Timing:
Complete this step before registering for classes.
Taking only one or two classes at SVC with no intent to enroll in additional quarters, contact enrollment@skagit.edu.

Registering early helps you get the classes and schedule you want.
Before you register:
- Complete New Student Registration
- Finish placement (if required)
Tip:
Classes fill quickly, so register as soon as your window opens.

Pay Tuition and Fees
Pay your tuition and fees or confirm your financial aid.
Why this matters:
You must pay or secure your funding to avoid being dropped from your classes.
What to know:
- Financial aid may not automatically apply — check your account
- Payment plans may be available
Timing:
Complete payment before the tuition deadline.
