How It Works
1 Apply for Admission to SVC
New students must apply for admission to Skagit Valley College.
You will not be able to receive any financial aid awards until you complete all of the admission process.
If you have questions about the admission process, please contact Enrollment Services.
-
-
- You will need to provide your Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), or WASFA ID Number to Enrollment Services when you apply for admission. The Financial Aid office cannot process your application without this information.
-
2 Complete FAFSA or WASFA
Fill out only one of the financial aid applications below. Do not complete both. You can use the following resource to determine which application is right for you.
COMPLETE THE WASFA QUESTIONNAIRE
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your eligibility for the federal Pell grant, federal direct loans, federal work study, FSEOG, and state aid.
Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) determines your eligibility for the Washington College Grant, the College Bound Scholarship, state work study, and the WASFA grant.
Do not forget to include Skagit Valley College on your application. It usually takes between 3-5 business days for your processed application to get to our college.
The Skagit Valley College School Code is 003792.
Note: If you completed your financial aid application for another school, you MUST add Skagit Valley College to your existing application.
3 Complete To Do List
Submit all required documents by the priority deadline for the quarter you plan to start.
If you miss the priority deadline your file might not be reviewed until after the quarter begins.
The Financial Aid Office cannot determine your eligibility for aid until you:
-
-
-
-
Submit all requested forms and documents
-
Complete all required application and admission steps

Priority Deadlines
Summer 2026 - Apr. 1, 2026
Fall 2026 - May. 1, 2026
Winter 2027 - Nov. 1, 2026
Spring 2027 - Feb. 1, 2027
You can track and complete your pending tasks in the Financial Aid Tile of ctcLink under your To Do List .
After You Complete Your File
Once your financial aid file is completed we will review your application and update your award status in ctcLink.
You will receive a email notification when your financial aid award is available. You can view your award details in the Financial Aid Tile in ctcLink.
4 Register for Classes
Your financial aid eligibility and award amounts will vary depending on the number of credits you enroll in each quarter.
The financial aid office will prioritize reviewing financial aid applications of students who are already registered for classes. The sooner you register, the sooner we can review your file.
Tuition Deferment (If You Meet the Priority Deadline)
If you complete your financial aid file by the priority deadline, we will place a tuition deferment hold on your account while we review your eligibility.
With a tuition deferment hold:
-
-
-
-
You do not need to pay tuition and fees upfront
-
You will not be dropped from your classes for non-payment
-
-
-
How to Register
Register for classes online through ctcLink by following the enrollment instructions provided on the Getting Started page.
If you have questions about how to register for classes, you can contact the Enrollment Services office.
5 Get Your Aid
Once your financial aid application has been completed and reviewed, you will receive an email from financial.aid@skagit.edu with a award notification letter attached. This award notification will break down whether you are eligible for aid, the types of aid you qualified for, and how much you aid you qualify for each quarter.
-
-
-
- You can view your award details in the Financial Aid Tile of your ctcLink dashboard.
-
-
NOTE: Your financial aid award notification letter will have award estimates that are based on full time enrollment - 12 or more credits. If you are enrolled in less than 12 credits for any given quarter you will need to submit an Enrollment Revision Form (ER Form). This form notifies the financial aid office that your award needs to be adjusted to match your enrollment. If this form is not completed you run the risk of being charged a financial aid repayment for the amount you were over-awarded.
