Responding to Student Writing “Beyond the Red Ink: Teachers’ Comments through Students’ Eyes” When faculty read and respond to student writing, we are constantly working to balance the tone and nature of our comments so that the writer will understand the feedback and feel both supported and encouraged. It can help to know how our comments are read by the writers. In this video from Bedford/St. Martin’s, students at Bunker Hill Community College talk about how instructors’ comments on their papers affect their confidence and their sense of themselves as writers.
