Dual Credit Programs at Skagit Valley College

If you are a high school student interested in starting college early, Skagit Valley College has a program for you. Dual Credit programs like Running Start, College in the High School, and CTE Dual Credit allow students to earn high school and college credit at the same time! Program benefits include saving time, saving money, gaining academic confidence, career exploration, and getting a head start on college. With guidance from college advisors and high school counselors, students could even complete an Associate’s Degree by the time of high school graduation! Most credits earned through dual credit programs can transfer to Washington-State Public Colleges and beyond. Students should check with their intended college about credit transferability prior to enrolling in courses.

Running Start

Running Start is a dual credit program that allows eligible juniors and seniors to enroll in college courses though Skagit Valley College, TUITION-FREE. Students enroll in Skagit Valley College courses that may count towards a college degree and meet high school graduation requirements. SVC clubs, services, and activities are open to Running Start students! Students should work closely with high school counselors and college advisors to select courses best suited to meet their goals. SVC offers courses in person through our campuses, centers, and online. Students can take academic transfer courses or professional technical courses. Get a Running Start on Your College Education:

College in the High School

College in the High School (CHS) is a dual credit program that allows high school students to earn college credit for eligible courses taken at collaborating high schools. Courses are located at the high school and taught by qualified high school teachers, using SVC course outcomes. CHS courses are primarily academic, transfer courses. Tuition for College in the High School is 65% less than resident tuition at SVC. Check out the available CHS course list at www.skagit.edu/chs.

CTE Dual Credit

CTE Dual Credit (Career and Technical Education) is a dual credit program that allows high school students to earn college credit for eligible courses taken at collaborating high schools. CTE Dual Credit courses prepare students for professional, technical programs at SVC. Courses are located at the high school and taught by approved high school teachers using SVC course outcomes. All CTE Dual Credit courses are FREE for students!
