First Time Student

First time enrolling at Skagit Valley College

If you are a high school graduate, transferring from another college, recently laid off and in need of retraining, pursuing a new career, or ready to become a skilled worker, you belong here! Use the following checklist below as a guide to becoming an SVC Cardinal. If you have questions or need clarification along the way, contact one of our campuses or centers listed in the contact info section of this page.

Complete Application

Submit an Admission Application online at the Washington State Community & Technical College Web Admissions Center (Be sure to select Skagit Valley College after creating an account). Please note that applications will take up to 10 business days to process.

Application Supplement:

Once you have applied to Skagit Valley College you will receive an email to the email account you put on your application inviting you to sign into the SVC application portal to complete your SVC Application Supplement. This questionnaire will help us learn more about your goals. Once you complete the application supplement, you will be able to log back into the SVC Application Portal to view your completed steps and see what the next step is in your enrollment process.

Funding Your Education

Skagit Valley College offers numerous programs and services to assist you with funding your education. We encourage you to explore the list of programs and resources to help determine what funding options may be available to you.

PLACEMENT OPTIONS

Skagit Valley College uses multiple tools to assist with determining the best courses to start with by assessing your skills in reading and mathematics. There may be more than one way to assess your starting place.

If you already know which method you want to use, please following one of the links below for additional information:

ACTIVATE

Activate your MySVC Account:

After you complete the application supplement, within a short amount of time (20 minutes) an SVC email account will be created for you. You may then activate your account by re-setting your password.

Please note: You will not have an SVC account created until you complete the application supplement.

You will receive an email with your Student ID number (SID) and your PIN number to set up your account.

AND

Complete Cardinal Pre-Flight Orientation

Next you must complete the Cardinal Pre-Flight Online Orientation.

Once your MySVC account is activated, you will have access to this self-paced orientation to programs, resources, opportunities and next steps at SVC within a short time (20 minutes.)

The Cardinal Pre-Flight Online Orientation is hosted on the SVC Canvas site. It will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete and can be accessed from any computer, tablet or phone with internet access.

Use your username and password to your MySVC account. If you are accessing the online orientation from your phone, you may consider downloading the Canvas app.

ENROLL

Once you have determined your course placement and complete Cardinal Pre-Flight, new students register for a Cardinal Take-Off New Student Group Advising session.

Here you will learn more about Skagit Valley College and register for your classes within the session.

Once you have completed the items above, you will be sent an email invitation to access the SVC Take-Off session options.

For the 2019-2020 Academic Year, these invitations will be send by the following dates:

April 22, 2019: Summer and Fall Quarter
November XX, 2019: Winter 2020 Quarter
February XX, 2019: Spring 2020 Quarter
